mark didn't actually right his gospel.
neither did any of the other disciples.
they were written by the gnostics anywhere between 50 and 200 years after the time of jesus.
it's just a story.

Your question may suggest that all were asleep or that they had too much to eat and drink at the supper, too much wine, and they fell asleep while "Jesus" said his prayers.
It is good to see that someone is doing some examination of the Bible and its contents, but you must accept that Luke confessed that he wrote only because many had written and that he, like John, had full access to all that was written, and that many Gentiles would have written, including those like Luke who was of Roman pagan origin.
Remember too that Mark had two endings to his Gospel.
You may notice too that "Jesus" prayed like Muslims pray, "he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed" and "fell on his face and prayed"(Matthew 26:39) "and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground" (Luke 22:44), again as Muslims pray. or his sweat would not have reached the ground.
Do some more examination and you may begin to see an elaborate trap being set for his enemies with Judas being a faithful companion who plays his part well just as the others would appear to be asleep so as to allow the mob of accusers to be brought in to camp by Judas and to allow them to feel confident of success with their weak planning for their second attempt on the life of the Messiah.
Why the swords?
Why Peter?
Why Joseph of Arimathea?
Why Herod in Jerusalem with his small army when he belonged in Galilee?
Why the Passover?
Why the Sabbath to follow?
Ask yourself the right questions and you are on your way to see the Light, but many will hate you when you grasp the Truth.
Keep on searching. You are on a roll.

Remember friend those of us who consider the Bible the inerrant word of God belive that the gospels as well as the entire Bible were inspired by God himself. Many times in several books of the Bible the writers discuss things and events and situations they were not present to witness first hand. But if you believe that the Bible is inspired and the writing directed by God who knows all things this is not an issue.

There were no witnesses just some more made up gospels by someone that was not even there, and if you want to take the time you will find many contradictions like that in the bible, that's why you can not take it to much to heart,
