I start out rolling and work my way clockwise around the room, then I go back and do the trim. Taping wastes time but if you are inexperienced its a necessity. Just make sure you remove the tape before the paint dries or it will pull the paint off the wall. Also use a tarp to catch spills, it will cost a little extra but sheets or towels doesnt protect the floor underneath.

Use blue painters tape to tape off w/. Get a good latter. My favorite one was one that had a space to put a paint tray and had a large area to stand instead of just a narrow bar. Get everything out of the room being painted. If you are going to do the ceiling, paint it first. And float any cracks first. If you have plaster walls, be aware that cracks just about always reappear. Call them "architural details" and don't worry about them. Make sure any surface you paint is clean first. We always wipe w/ clorox cleaner or 409. Let it dry before taping and painting. Invest in good drop clothes--the canvas kind that you can wash. You are more likely to slip on a plastic one. Get a cheap radio to play while painting! Get good quality brushes, rollers and roller covers. I think my roller covers are lambswool and are about 3/4 inch thick. Cheap roller covers are o.k. if you are priming w/ kiltz, but it sounds like you do not have to do that. Also slightly moisten the roller so it will not absorb so much water first before painting. Where disposable latex or vinel gloves. Get the best quality paint you can afford. I prefer Sherwin Williams Everclean paint flat, color Nostalgia White (a very pale peach that looks great!). Flat helps hide imperfections in the sheetrock/plaster better than glossy. Use a good paint tray and a tray liner. Start at the top and go around. Roll a section, then cut it in w/ the brush. Easy and fun to do! It instantly makes a place look better. Clean your brush and roller cover when you are done w/ dishwashing liquid and water. I've had the same roller covers and brushes for about 5-6 years.

First get some masking tape (the kind made for painters). Use the tape to put where you don't want paing to end up such as baseboards, window frames. You don't need to cover the whole thing just a border between walls and frames.

Use a paintroller and paint tray. Open paint, stir with stirstick. pour in paint tray. Put paint on roller by dipping in tray and rolling it a bit..don't get it on too thick. Then paint the wall, keep it smooth and even up and down. Get more paint as needed.

You might want to use a primer coat first before the actual colour you are going to use.

Oh you also should put newspapers or tarps or something on the floor to protect from paint spills.

take a new clean broom and brush the ceiling and corners down for fine cobwebs and dust, if there is any build up of any sort wash the walls with white vinegar, take down light fixture covers, tape off the corners of the walls between ceiling and wall, if you are paintint the ceiling put the tape on the wall and paint the ceiling, either on a ladder or with a roller extension handle, be sure the floors are covered with something to protect the floor from paint spatters, they always happen.use the blue painters tape . when the ceiling is good and dry, you can use tape on the edges of the ceiling next to the wall, and around all wood work, door frames, baseboards and window frames. there is a special tape for fresh paint, but im not sure what color it is, but the paint department will know, so ask. thats what you put on the ceiling, now cut in with a brush all around the windows, baseboards down the corners and up near the ceiling, i assume you are using latex paint, much less mess than oil based. rooms you might have to wash, kit and bath usually, you will want semi gloss or gloss paints, thats sort of shiny or very shiny, they are quite washable, bedrooms, living room etc you want satin or flat. thats very slightly shiny or totally matte.be sure you wash your brushes and roller covers well each time you stop for long as the latex drys fast and will make the brush or roller cover useless. sometimes its best to buy a six pack of roller covers, its your choice of a bristle brush or a foam brush, foam is cheaper and you can just toss them when they get icky. thats what i do. your paint stores will give advice too, and tell you how much you need if you give your room size, remember dark colors, like red need about three coats to cover a pure white wall, they paint stores also have lots of idea books and paint sample books that have ideas for combinations and so on. good luck

As a novice, paint the less used areas first. Practise first.

Some simple rules are:
1. Start at the top and come down
2. Start from the rear and move forward. Painting your in a corner is very real.
3. Cover the floor, furniture from spills
