if you get anything saying you've won whatever and you never entered the contest then do not send them anything. you can't win anything without entering.
call your bank and all your credit card companies and the police. you've given some identity theives alot of info and chances are they could be spending your money right now. do this right away.

It shouldn't. It is a common practice to send scanned passport copies. Most foreign-hires of international companies do this routinely...I have done it many times...but we know where it is going...to which company or office. I live and work in China and I must have at least 50 such copies in various departments and offices here. However, the copy provides some personal information that could be used by spammers...and you will reap hundreds if not thousands of solicitations...they target by sex...if under 35, then you will be offered XXX videos, dating services, etc. If you are over 35, then it is time to offer discounts on Viagra, or escort services or gambling...etc.

American passports have embedded reflective images in the picture that makes a photocopied or scanned copy unusable for future use. The bad guys may not be able to use your picture, but the information on the passport is damaging.

Yes, report this to the police asap as you may find you get a visit from them saying you have committed a crime. They will have forged you passport by now and will use it for smuggling drugs and to carry out illegal activities. At leaset if you report it the police are aware of it.

It is entirely possible that they will replace your photo with someone else's and become you. You may very well have provided an international terrorist with an identity. Good show, mate. If you haven't yet, I would contact your local police or Interpol and let them know.

It could, as they can take the passport number and try to forge one.
