The main topping has to be a finely chopped meat sauce, usually just called "sauce" but it has to be made right which means it has to have just the right amount of preferably "fresh" cumin. Besides that you should add a little yellow mustard on top, onions if you like, or better yet cole slaw. Never add melted cheese, there are enough calories already. The bun should either be crisply toasted and lightly buttered, or limply steamed and soft depending on your preference. As for the main course, the hot dog should be all beef, natural casing, like Nathan's Hot Dogs are. They are the ones used in the annual national hot dog eating contest (where that Japanese young fellow usually eats over 50 in an hour!) I think he's won the contest every year for the last four or five years. The key ingredients are the chili (meat sauce) with just the right amount of cumin. Enjoy.

Grilled of course but you can put them in the oven and just place on a rack. No dyed red weenies either. Place on bun with chilli,slaw,onions,little mayo and ketchup.

mmmmm your idea sounds good,
I love hot dogs best when they are grilled or cooked on an open fire on a cooking fork, with mustard and lightly ketchup

i prefer sabrettes beef hot dogs grilled crispy, shredded cheese just a bit of mustard, and i skip the bun (watching carbs)
