How long do you have it? You didn't specify ,is a spine or sciatica. Take a tennis ball ,place it on your back,as long as we are not talking about your spine, and press against the wall. It always helps me. Good luck!

Ok, first I broke my L3 vertibrea Aug. 3, 1984. And yes some days it still hurts like hell. There are some really good ideas listed and some just plain bad ones.
1) Heat will relax the muscles and thus lower tension and pain.
2) Heat then ice, three times for twenty minutes each often relieves the pain for about 24 hours.
3) tylenol helps me deal with my level of pain, but I've taken 32 in a day before.
4) If possible I would at least have a good spinal specialist look at it, and probably want to take an exray. And almost any specialist will give you a small booklet that will have several exercises in it, that work.
5) A TENS unit may help greatly. But for some reason they don't work for everyone. Mine about saved my life.
6) This simple technique has helped everyone I know who has tried it. And yes I know it sounds silly. Get a kitchen chair, lay on a cold tile floor, like the kitchen, place the chair as close to your butt as possible (side ways) and put your legs up on it. You'll look like you are sitting on the chair sideways, but you'll have 90 degrees rotation. You need to lay there for 30 minutes min. So take a small pillow with you, I usually fall asleep, because sometimes it's been days since I've been able to relax.
7) Remember until you stop the pain, the spine can not heal itself. So unless you do something about a back injury, it's not going to go away. Unless you get lucky and just pop it back in place, then that wasn't a real serious injury.
8) Also a note how much your back works in any given day. If you weigh 200 lbs and you bend over to pick up a pencil, your L3 is lifting 140 lbs. No wonder we have so much back pain.

A heating pad, Motrin type of medication, and rest. There are also some portable disposable heating pads that last 8 hours that work really well. I think the biggest thing in treating back pain is lots of rest.
I have chronic back pain and have had back surgery so I speak from experience. Unfortunately there is no magic pill out there or I would be in line for it. Good luck!

I often had some lower back pain. I found the best cure is doing yoga and some back strengthening exercises. It will reduce the frequency.

Go to a chiropractor. I didn't believe in them. But after 1 surgery and the surgeons practically knocking down my door to cut me open again, I went to a chiro & I love it! I got once a month or less & I feel great! The surgeons told me w/out surgery I'd lose the use of my right leg. 2 yrs later & I'm still walking, dancing & running!

you should probably go to your doctor i had lower back pain and it turned out I had a disk out of place in my vertabre its not that serious but physical therapy, you dont want something that can easily be treated turn in to something more serious if either one of your legs start to feel numb or get quick strikes of pain go to your doctor immediatly
