the reason i was asking is because of the source i just wanted to ask to see what people thought and even though we have a higher crime rate here most places are very safe and you have very little to worry about where i live they is almost no crime but 2 miles down the road it is a different story and i don't go there without being armed i have compared crime statistics and it does seem to be rising i the uk you have a very long way to go to catch us i just wanted to know if the way this article was written reflected the views of any people there since i don;t know i can't pick a best answer but i thank you for lending me your views

I don't agree with the other answerers and feel the article is closer to the truth than people would like to admit. Depends on where you live in the UK. I now live in the southeast and street crime is rife here. I've had my purse stolen and now I always make sure my bag is zipped up and I have a hand over it. Can't walk down the high street in my local town without witnessing some form of violence. It's a crime to own C.S. gas canisters yet they're freely available in the rest of Europe. These thugs would have me done if I used one on them and they know it.

This is the most stupid news article I've read in a long time.
The truth is that while there is crime it is nothing like as bad as in the USA and most people do not come into contact with it very often.
I've lived in England for over 60 years and I have never been attacked or threatened or burgled and I know few people who have suffered even one of these crimes.
Most crime is of a minor sort and confined to a few inner city areas.
In common with most people I have never felt the need to have a gun to feel safer.

here in the Uk of course there is crime. I don't think it is any more dangerous than any other developed country. Like anywhere else if you take the obvious precautions you will be a lot safer, for example lock doors, don't walk alone after dark, don't walk down the street showing your money/valubles. The thing with Britian is that we are a small place and not much happens here so when it does it is front page news for a long time!

Don't forget, the article was on the website of the National Rifle Association, in whose interest it is to proclaim that Britain is a lawless desert because we're not allowed to carry guns.

The truth is that violent crime in the UK is a fraction of that in the States. Pick-pockets and thefts from cars are the main thing you have to worry about and even then, unless you wander round brandishing the latest mobile phone in the centre of London, you are extremely unlikely to experience anything. Just be sensible about not putting your purse down or leaving valuables in view in your hire car and you'll be fine.

This is a pathetic article that does not give a true representation, yes there is crime but not on the scale that we are to scared to go out and are constantly worrying about being robbed or victimized.

No its not at all, im not saying crime never happens here course it does.
We don't have crime that bad very often so when it does happen it is extacturated and all over the news etc...
But i feel it is quite a safe county i don't need any weapons with me to feel safe.
