I agree with you. However, it is not my place to pass judgment. God is God and it doesn't matter what name you put on it. Although we are all scattered and tell tales to our young of many different things, the underlying truth is that there is a God. All souls survive once the body dies. Your path is determined by the extent of learning you have achieved. If you just can't learn that murder, for instance, is not socially acceptable, then your soul will continue in that path designated to teach you that lesson. I believe hell was introduced as a means to control the masses. If you are basically a good person, as you state, then why worry about it? Rest assured that you will progress as you should. Have faith that your guidance will lead you in the right direction. And don't concern yourself too much on all of the dogma. Absorb all of the information you can and then practice what feels best for you -- regardless of who says what. As long as you are right with God, you are going to be fine.

You've missed the point big time! It is not good works that get you into Heaven, it's your relationship with God. THAT is the 'one way" and you can have a personal relationship with God if you are Mormon, Methodist, Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, or any of a host of other "ism"s. Now my personal belief is that the radical Muslims are too consumed by hate and bloodlust to have a real relationship with God. And to be evenhanded, the Catholics of the time of the Inquisition had that same problem. As have many others. Sometimes even the most faithful lose the path, but it can be found again.
I don't think that God has ever or will ever designate one sect as the one true path, but rather has provided many paths that can lead to Him. I am Baptist and that works for me, but I don't expect that to be the answer for everybody. Judge a tree by its fruit.
As for good works, they are a result, a product of that relationship- not the core of any faith. Good works are not the key, the relationship is the key that opens those Pearly Gates.

The " mainstream" thought is that good works get you into heaven. Only about a third of the world professes to be Christian. Christianity is the only major religion that states a person can be saved on faith. Most of the worlds religion belief it is good works. Your good works may make you deserving of many things but eternity with God something that must be bought by someone bigger.

Ok then are you saying there is no god ? If there is no god and you are going to heaven by your works who is the one counting to your good stuff compared to your bad stuff is it a cosmic being of some sort that can know all the good and bad everyone has done . Who's your cosmic judge. Its funny you don't believe in the God of creation because He sounds like the guy your are thinking about He just has an easier way into heaven than yours . He says "believe on the work of my Son and you be saved" He says one sin is enough to disqualify you and you can not clean it your self , thats the part you probably dont like.

Your logic is severely flawed. Just because others( and you) are wrong about their beliefs that does not mean that my beliefs are wrong.
Why would anyone feel that they are so good that they can get into heaven? Why don't you try this. Pick a celebrity. Susan Sarandon, Jennifer Lopez,Jack Black, whoever. Then go see if they will let you into their house. Can't get in right? So why do you think you would be let into God's house? Especially after showing such disrespect to him and his son? Besides you never even RSVPed. But there is still time.

So everyone except the atheists gets to be right? How fun.
Your assessment that all of these religions are right conveniently neglects the fact that several of these say they are the one true religion. A fundamental tenet of Christianity is that all other religions have false gods. You cannot possibly say that Christians are right and that another religion is right too. Wouldn't it be much more likely that they're all wrong?
But suppose for an instant that -I'm- wrong and that some sort of god really does exist and he/she/it really does live in heaven. What does this mean for my life on earth? Absolutely nothing, actually. I live my life as I should, with reason. I do not believe anything that there is no good reason to believe (religions and levitation are out; celestial mechanics and humanism are in). I examine my life from the perspective of a human, as that is what we all are. I as such live a moral life. I do not kill. I do not steal. I do not lie. I do not rape. Most importantly, I do not commit the deadliest sin: to not think. Surely any sort of god that exists would expect us to live as though that's what we had. What would the point be otherwise? A god who asks us to divine the true nature of the universe from an entire lack of evidence (and isn't that the definition of faith? accepting something even though it can't be proved?) cannot expect anything good to come out of it. Surely he/she/it would prefer us to live our lives as though what we could see was what there were.
Suppose even that Christianity turned out to be the one true religion. I would be going to hell (I'm gay, I don't believe in Him, and I masturbate, if you need some reasons for starters). Even if this is true—I don't care. If the Christian god is true, then He is wrong. I disagree with him. Anything that cannot be arrived at by rational thought is unacceptable. I will burn in hell for eternity, but I will be satisfied in the fact that I did not turn away from my principles. I would rather be right than unhurt. If the Christian god is true, then almost any person on earth would make a better god.
What possible reason is there for us to suppose that there might even be a heaven? Why do we need a reward or punishment after we die? Why is it such a heretical notion to suggest that we live for our earthly lives? Is it solely a fear of death that makes us need to create a myth of eternal life?
God is most likely nonexistant. Should he/she/it exist, he/she/it most likely could not possibly care less about human affairs (isn't it somewhat arrogant to suppose that our petty prayers could sway the ruler and shaper of the universe?). Should god care about human affairs, he/she/it most likely is not overly concerned about what we believe, but rather how we treat our fellow humans. Should god be concerned about what we believe, god is petty, irrational, and quite simply wrong. Even if I believed in this god, the way I would live my life would not change.
To summarize, life should be lived for life's sake. Enjoy your life, and if you have the time, try to help some others enjoy theirs too.

Why would you want to be in Heaven with me if I'm offensively WRONG!?!?
I think it's really comical when people who aren't even willing to admit Heaven exists say that they're going there.
Jesus Christ said that He is The Way, The Truth and The Life, and that no one can come to the Father except by Him. Since The Father is in Heaven, you really need to accept Jesus as your Savior to get there.

What do you think a judge would say if you were brought into the courtroom and you told him "Hey judge! I'm a good person check out all of the good things I've done during my life. Let me go and don't worry about why I'm here because I'm a good person OK?"
The judge is going to look at you like you've lost your mind. Then he is going to hear the evidence about whether or not you've broken the law and if you have then you're going to be found "Guilty" and have to suffer the consequences.
It's the same way when you die and come before God. Your whole life is going to come under review and if you have broken God's laws then the penalty is death!
Have you ever told a lie? - Guilty of being a liar!
Have you ever taken something that didn't belong to you even if it was something small like a pen from work? - Guilty of being a theif!
Have you ever used God or Jesus' name like a curse word when you were angry? - Guilty of being a blasphemer!
Your post reminds me of this parable that Jesus gave regarding a wedding and a guest who thought that he didn't need the wedding clothes that the King was providing. From other Scriptures we understand that in this parable the "clothes" are symbolic of the difference between the "filthy rags" of our own self righteousness and the blood washed "white robes" of those who have trusted in God's sacrifice of his Son on our behalf.
"And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. (the Jews who rejected Jesus and had their city destroyed by Rome in 70AD)
Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. (that's going to be you if you don't repent)
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 22:1-13

Gee, do you have to shout?
If that's how you really feel, then I guess you do not have much respect for your "God" after-all.
Consider this. If "God" and Heaven really do exist, then it is by "God's" grace alone that you enter into Heaven, for everyone is suppose to have sin.
Always remember who is the host.
And I am not even Christian...

Do you remember being in school and being expected to answer tests? What happened when you answered every question "e) All of the Above:"? That's right. You flunked out. Same with this world's Final Exam. There is only one right answer. Your job is to find the right one amidst all the false tales. Better start boning up, you're gonna flunk with your present strategy.
