Actually, the answer to this is rather simple. Before we came to Earth, God presented us with a plan. The plan was to come to Earth, receive physical bodies, and learn to walk by faith. When we came to Earth, a sort of "veil" was placed between our Earth life and our pre-Earth life, so we wouldn't be able to remember anything before birth. That way we wouldn't have a perfect knowledge of our premortal existence, and therefore be able to exercise faith. One day, the veil will be removed and we will remember everything.

Belief in an afterlife does not necessitate pre-life consciousness. Few major religions claim that the individual existed eternally, but was, like all other things, created. You are essentially asking "What were you before you were created." The eternity only goes in one direction, forward. You can't apply it to the past, that's just bad logic.
Thank you, try again.

Due to mis-use of free will, by desiring to exist separately from the Spiritual world, the original spiritual body becomes shrouded in illusion to allow the living entity to establish a position of forgetfulness, this is perfectly performed by five gross energies and three subtle energies, including the material mind.
If however the living entity realises the error and desires to re-unite with the Supreme, the veil of forgetfulness and illusion is removed and the living entity can then perceive themselves again, as pure Spiritual beings, perceive Spiritual reality and at the end of this life, return back home, back to Godhead.

Interesting perception. I don't think as many people believe in a before-life as believe in an after-life. Not many people are afraid of where they have been, just where they may be going. And they don't want to go into the scary unknown alone; they want a powerful (and best if ALL powerful) protector to guide and defend againstt the unknown.
On earth, people pay big bucks for powerful defenders agains the boogie men. And some pretender defenders milk the fearful for all they can.

You are confusing afterlife with reincarnation.
Reincarnation believes you were here before and you will keep returning in some form or another until............
Afterlife as I know it is an eternity with God. I have this life and I will have eternity with God when He returns to claim this earth and His people

One of the reasons the Church is anti-abortion - Pro-Life - is the teaching goes...when a married couple unite in the sex act it must be open to the possibility of Life. The Act is actually of God, a gift to humanity..when properly done in marriage.. and when the sperm meets the egg and fertilization takes place God also adds to it a new soul.
There is no memory of PRE-LIFE, as opposed to AFTER-LIFE, because we did not exist. We were not created until the union of sperm, egg, and spirit at our conception.

people have a need to believe in an afterlife so they can justify their existence and purpose in life, most people can not deal with death, dead is simply dead and you are gone forever ashes to ashes or dust to dust, the dead know absolutely nothing we morn our loss and move into a religious mode that says they have gone home to the father, and that makes us feel better and lessons the trauma of losing a love one. will we see one another on the other side who knows.

Before birth we are part of 2 different personalities or genes, half your Mom's and half your Pap's. You share 2 different memories, so when you are born you will put it in storage in your brain to be used later on through out your life, that is your personality.

According to Judiasm (which is correct), we learned and knew everything while in the womb. As we came out, a malach (angel) punched us in the area under the nose above the mouth, (cleft...i think its called that) and we forgot everything. Also why we come out crying, cause punches hurt.

Unlike God, we are held to a linearity.
He says He loved us before the foundation of the world but we cannot be privy to same.
