My parents always gave us half of our age until we turned 13 (ie: age 10, allowance $5), then we just recieved $10 each week until we got a job.

I always find it strange that we pay our children to do chores aroud the house that they should be doing anyway, simply as a part of learning and respect. I think 5 is plenty if you feel you must do anything at all.... what does a 8 year old need 40 dollars a month for?
I think you as parents already spend plenty on keeping your children safte, healthy, warm, educated and clothed. I say take that 40 and by yourself a sweater for once.

That sounds like a fair allowance for their ages. It also depends upon what you can afford. Don't base it on what other parents do. You do what you feel is right for your children. Besides, a 10 yr. old and an 8 yr. old doesn't need a lot of money but if there responsibilities increase then their allowance should increase.

I like the idea of giving them what their age is.. If they are 10 they get $10 a week. That is if they do their required work which it sounds like they do. If u can afford &18 bucks a week between the two go for it. But I am sure they are happy to get anything.

I would say give them the amt of there age a week so when they are 8 give them 8.00 a week and so on but since you started it now I would say continue and when they turn 11 start giving them a dollar more each year so when they turn 11 give them 11 and so on but don't cut it now since you were all ready giving them 10.00 a week

I give my kids 5.00, and if they dont do things that they are suppose to, keep their room clean, keep their bathroom clean, etc, then they get deductions, so it's really up to them what they make.
they can also earn more by doing things above what they already know they are suppose to do

I think 5 is enough. You don't want to spoil them. They are lucky to be getting an allowance, a lot of kids don't.
