You have Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) or Lockjaw

If a jaw opens and won't close, it's due to a forward dislocation of the jaw joint. The joint pops forward and out of place and won't go back. It's treated by firmly gripping the lower jaw and rocking it downward and backward until it pops in place.

Trauma to the jaw is one of the behaviors or conditions that can lead to TMJ disorders. The most common symptom of TMJ problem is painful clicking, popping or grating sounds in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth. Let me guess… you should also have bad headaches, earaches, and dizziness sometimes?? My advise to you is to see a ORAL-Medicine dentist who specialize in TMJ disorder. Your general dentist should be able to refer you to one!!

7 years ago I've been involved in a car wreck and even since suffered with severe on and off facial and jaw pain. I've tried almost everything western medicine had to offer and had visited countless of specialist, had done ct scans, and therapies but to no avail. The doctors I have been to had persisted that there wasn't anything wrong with me and that almost drove me crazy as I was going through hell from this condition. According to all my symptoms I was diagnosed by a holistic doctor as having TMJ and he had recommended this book to me. After following the recommendation in the book for several weeks, it had changed my life. I got immediate relief after following the unique set of exercises in the book and after 2 weeks the jaw and face pain had completely gone. I only wish I would have ordered this program years ago. It would have saved me a lot of pain and anguish.

Sounds like your jaw is trying to tell you something.

Maybe, "Hey timmydog123. The only time you stopped talking in the last 4 hours was to chew those 15 toffees. I've had enough. I'm going on strike!"

Maybe?

Cyndi B gave you the short and sweet version of Angela DDS's totally accurate answer. You might be able to sort of move your jaw from side to side a little bit to relocate it properly in the joint.
