I have my GED, I got it so I could join the army. And it is looked down upon by employers because they look at as meaning that you quit things when they get to hard. But that isn't always the case. And to all those people who answered this question saying that nobody has a reason to quit high school because it isn't that hard, you people don't know what you are talking about. I agree that high school is not that hard, but there are many other reasons why a person may have to drop out. Sometimes kids end up having babies and they have to drop out, or what if your parents die and you have to take care of your siblings. I personally dropped out because I was living in a group home, and I was miserable, we got treated like sh!t. So I dropped out got my GED and joined the army. So you shouldn't judge a person because they have their GED until you know their story. And if someone had to drop out yet they still took the time to get their GED it shows that they do care about their future, not everybody is fortunate to have parents who will take care of them while they finish high school.

High School diplomas are more respected by employers than GEDs. Most look at high school diplomas as a more applied person, who got the job done the first time. I, on the other hand, think that a GED shows initiative and that that person cares about their future. It really depends on the person.

Its true many people look down on the GED. After all, it is easy to give up and drop out of school. It is tougher to actually stick with the system and go thru the motions, do what you need to do, and get the diploma.

That being said, however, if you get a college degree nobody will really care if you got a GED or a high school diploma.

Its all about proving that you have what it takes to figure out a system, stick with things when times get tough, do what you are told etc etc....

Its the same, I dropped out when I was 17 to enlist in the army. I got a lot of crap for it, but I proved to everyone that I was doing something with my life and not waisting it. That was 5 years ago. This year I started college for a degree in criminal justice. I think im on course and doing pretty good. I have a nice place and a 2005 f150 to show for it,a degree soon. The fact is im in the same spot I would be if I were to have graduated. In your case it sounds like you had another year left. I would have stayed with it, but you have your reasons just like I did.

Why mention it? That's your business.. they are just looking for a reason to put you down. Anyway, if a GED was not a good as a High School diploma, you couldn't get into college could you? lol... It's just as good baby... it's just different... props to you for getting yours! :)

I got mine in the 80's and continued with night school at a community college. I took one class at a time and it took 12 years but I now have two college certificates and make 55 G's.

Yes, I do. It is basically the same thing, for working purposes. I used to feel a little weird about it, but many a job later, I have found it really doesn't matter. And, you can still use it to get into college. Good job! :o)

It is the same thing. People tell me that too, but I know it is the same. I got mine when I was 19. Way to go!
