Actually, things CAN show back up...a lot of collection companies will sell debts to other collection companies, or thier "sister" companies, allowing them to get away with putting it back on your credit report. If you know that this has happened (a credit report will show the original creditor on a collection) you can file a dispute with the credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax).

iformation, good or bad, purges from your credit report after a period of time. That period of time is different from one place to another but the most common is seven years. The purge will occur seven yrs after the last recorded payment regardless if the debt has been completely settled or not. This information will not be reposted to your report once it has fallen off.

No, the information on your credit report is not removed it
just expires with time. It remains there so creditors can view
your long term history for good or bad patterns of credit, and
because some type of debt never expires.
....Also, the 7 year rule is not absolute, it depends on what state you live in and what type of debt or bankruptcy you have.

If you had a collection account on your credit report, and that agency sells it to another, then it can go back onto your report because it has a new owner.

Once an item is removed at or past the legal reporting period, it is illegal to re-insert it.
An item can be re-inserted if it was removed 'before' the legal reporting period has run but you must be notified of the re-insertion before it happens.
