Abraham was definitely a Jew. I am a Christian and I know this for a *fact* -- this was something explained to us in my Catholic school, and is very obvious. To be a Christian, you have to believe that Jesus lived, died, and rose again for our sins -- but Jesus was a *long* time after Abraham. How could Abraham have believed in something that hadn't even occured yet? No, whoever told you that was wrong. Abraham was definitely Jewish.

Abraham was the first Jew.
He took a stand when he broke all of the idols which his father made for worship.
He and Sarah had a son, Isaac, even though they were very old. Sarah laughed when the angel came to tell her that she would have a son. But it was so.
Abraham's faith was tested when God commanded him to bring Isaac, his only son as a sacrifice to him. But once Abraham acquiesced, God told him to sacrifice an animal instead.
Christians follow both the old and new testaments while Jews follow only the old. That is why the Christians are connected to Abraham, but of course, he lived long before Jesus was born.

A Christian who says Abaham was a Christian has no idea what they're talking about, but I don't believe he was a Jew either. He just followed God's voice and was a good man. I don't think he was labeled a Jew. I don't even think there was Judaism yet then, but I could be wrong. But he definitely wasn't Christian because Christ was a descendant of Abraham and Isaac, at least on his mother's side...

Abraham was the first to be called Hebrew (Genesis 14:13). The Most High made a Covenant with Abraham and his seed. The Title Hebrew was passed on from Abraham to his Son Isaac and Isaac son Jacob and to Jacobs 12 sons who became the 12 tribes of Israel. The Israelites were known and called Hebrews mainly by outsiders or foreigners. The name means One who crosses over, or wander. It is also derived from Eber, which means "one who emigrates" and "beyond, on the other side." Abraham and his posterity being called Hebrews in order to express a distinction between the races east and west of the Euphrates. It may also be derived from Heber, one of the ancestors of Abraham (Genesis 10:24) Hebrew is a proper title that is still in use today by the true modern descendants of ancient Israel.

According to Jewish tradition, Abraham was born under the name Abram in the city of Ur in Babylonia modern day Iraq in the year 1948 from Creation (circa 1800 BC). He was the son of Terach, an idol merchant, but from his early childhood, he questioned the faith of his father and sought the truth. He came to believe that the entire universe was the work of a single Creator, and he began to teach this belief to others.
Abram tried to convince his father, Terach, of the folly of idol worship. One day, when Abram was left alone to mind the store, he took a hammer and smashed all of the idols except the largest one. He placed the hammer in the hand of the largest idol. When his father returned and asked what happened, Abram said, "The idols got into a fight, and the big one smashed all the other ones." His father said, "Don't be ridiculous. These idols have no life or power. They can't do anything." Abram replied, "Then why do you worship them?"
Eventually, the one true Creator that Abram had worshiped called to him, and made him an offer: if Abram would leave his home and his family, then G-d would make him a great nation and bless him. Abram accepted this offer, and the b'rit (covenant) between G-d and the Jewish people was established. (Gen. 12).

Abraham was a man of God. So he was a Jew. Jesus Christ was born a Jew. But Abraham lived before Christ was born. Christian means Christ kike. Abraham didn't have to be a Christian Jew. At that time Jews were very common. But even the Jews refused Christ. That's what their problem is today.

Abraham was a Hebrew and lived about 2000 years before Jesus. The Torah is the first five books of the Old Testament. How ignorant of you!

Abraham was as God told him, the father of many nations. He was not a Jew, He was a Hebrew, which possibly came from the word "Habiru" which in those days meant a nomad. The word Jew came from a shorten form of the word Judah who was a great grandson of Abraham. Abraham also is the spiritual father of those who believe in God by faith which includes Christians. He did not descend from Christians or Jew, they descended from him, making him neither but also the father of both.

An interesting point about Abraham is that although all bloodline Jews of today are descended from him, Abraham himself was not a Jew! Abraham's son Isaac, had a son Jacob, who was renamed Israel, who had 12 sons from whom came The Tribes Of Israel, one of which was Judah, from whom came the Jews. The first "Jew" was Judah, Abraham's great-grandson. Both Jews and Arabs are equally descended from Abraham, but Abraham himself was neither "Jew" nor "Arab". Many fierce Middle East wars have since been fought between Abraham's children, right to the present time.
The twelve sons of Jacob, have the twelve tribes that the chosen 144,000 are from.

Abraham is the Father in Faith for Jews, Christians and Muslems.
He was the first to believe in the God that all 3 religions worship.
Technically, I guess we would have to say he was the first Jew....since that was the first of the three faiths to exist.
remember that Abraham was father to Isaac- the Father of Jacob....but FIRST Abraham was father of Ishmael---from whom the prophet Mohammed is descended.
