You're either getting the story confused, or you're being obnoxious. If you're the former, then here's my answer: when Jesus was born, it wasn't a big happy celebration like we have now. Only a few people knew of Jesus' existence, and only a few people recognized him for who he was - the Son of God and Man.

The inn was full for some other, unimportant reason. I don't believe it explains in the Bible why Joseph and Mary couldn't find an open room.

As for Christmas itself, you're right -- it is a celebration because of Jesus' birth. But that celebration didn't start for a long time after his life (not sure how long), and is to this day actually practiced on the darkest day of the year through *symbolism.* Jesus is actually said to have been born probably some time in the late summer or early fall. The explanation of the symbolism is that Jesus is the light of the world, the one who brings good things to our lives, so by making his birth celebrated on the darkest day, each day afterwards will be brighter and brighter and brighter... see what I mean?

Well, actually, Christmas was NOT, in fact, a Roman holiday. The early Church folded in many pagan traditions surrounding the Winter Solstice. Rather than stomping these traditions to death (which is what they would like to have done) they took more of a, "if you can't beat them, confuse their traditions with yours and join them" attitude.

There is no mention of December 25 as "christmas" until the 11th Century.

And the inn was full because of the census - Bethlehem was a total hole-in-the wall little bitty town. Besides the fact that it was in the "Plan" that Jesus be born in the humblest of circumstances.

Jesus was not born on Christmas. Christianity stole the holiday and claimed it for themselves. It is originally a pagan holiday celebrating the winter solstice. We don't know if the inn was really full or Joseph didn't have the funds. Maybe the inn was full because it was a week-end.

The inn was full because Ceasar Augustus had ordered a census to be taken and everyone had to travel back to their hometown, and Joseph was from the town of David and therefore had to travel to Bethlehem with Mary who was pregnant at the time and because of the census, there was no room at the inn so Joseph and Mary was given room at one of the stables for Mary to give birth to Jesus.

I want to answer this question with details but after reading all the answer, I think Mastermind24 has the more accurate anwer given here! I like to add that Christians adapted a pagan tradition in celebrating Christmas because nobody among Jesus apostles knows his exact birthday! And to think that they consider him as their saviuor. This only proves that Jesus is an ordirary mortal, albeit a great teacher.

I thought Caesar called a census, so everyone need to travel to their hometown to register. Joseph's hometown was Bethlahem, and many people needed to travel back the Bethlahem to register for the census. Jesus was not born on December 25th. The early christians chose this day because the Romans celebrated some sort of pagan mid-winter festivel on this day. Because the early christians did not want to be persecuted, they chose to celebrate Jesus' birthday on the same day so it didnt look suspicious that people were feasting.

There was a census of civilians at betlehem and it must be done at all civilians's villages where they were born. But remember 25 dec is not a real Jesus birthday. 25 Des was adaptated from Greek's spring festival for God of Zeus. But when christianity spread they change the celebration of zeus to celebration of Jesus

It wasnt full because they were celebrating christmass. that time of the year was around April. 25th december is not the day of the Lords birthday. that day was chosen just out of convience. It doesnt matter what day of the year jesus was born. All that matters is that He died and rose from the grave.
praise jesus

First off it doesn't say where Jesus was born but it says He was laid in a manger. Luke 2:1-7
Maybe it was full because it was busy. It doesn't say why.
