Well,I'm not Buddhist, but I do go outside to meditate and have the presence of mind to blaze up some citronella candles before getting down to business. It keeps the skeeters away and has a nice ambiance.

Good question-not coz ya asked it but because i asked it to myself some days ago after being hounded by flies while meditating. Unfortunately these do bite but not as bad as mosquitos. I think if you are a meditator then it is allowable to swat the dam things. However, being a Buddhist is a whole other story. The deep respect for all living manifestations of being should be the principal foundation rock behind your ethics. And absolute detachment should be the anchor of your metaphysics. So for Buddhists i would see the mosquito as a welcome challenge to my practice.
The flies only hardened my resolve to let go of the attachment to bodily senses and the cost of lotion afterwards was miniscule to the gain in learning a little more self discipline if nothing else.
Yea-good question friend.

well i really cant say much about them, they do that when they are meditating for some special enchantations, where all their attention should be only towards meditation. coz if they do not concentrate hard, the purpose of the prayer will not be complete.

but yes jain do not kill anything, not even an ant or so as to say that they always cover their faces so that even microorganisms don't get to them.

It's not really a "supposed to" kind of thing. If you're deep in meditation it won't really bother you though, just look at my picture as a reference.
