many people on this site use the bible to back up their reasons, which i dont understand because that is simply a book full of faith, (and crap in my opinion). So do you think it is right for them to use it as a source of reference?

I don't think so, no. But it's not like they're going to stop doing it. I usually just ignore people when they use the bible as a reference. Unless what they're referring to makes a valid point, regardless of its questionable credibility.

Before this type of discussion can be done, the people discussing should start from the same frame of reference. I believe that the Bible is literally true from cover to cover in the original language it was written in. If you do not believe this, we will come to a point where we disagree and then we will have no ultimate authority to judge which is correct. That would mean for you that everything is based on situations and for me everything is absolute. I judge everything else as true or not by comparing it to the Bible. You judge the Bible by comparing it to things you have been taught. Have you ever wondered if you were taught wrong. It takes much more faith to believe a complex being as you and I were evolved from nothing than to believe in an act of creation.

The Bible is actually full of prime life examples. God used people to act out situations that still affect us today. I'm seriously doubting that you've read any great portion of it, otherwise you'd recognize that. it is one of the oldest books in existance. There are tons of other "historical" writing from Greek and Roman times that support the more historical fact in the Bible (kings, people, places, events, etc…) The Old Testament part of the Bible is used by the top three religious systems on this planet. To say that millions and millions of people throughout the last 5,000 years are in error for referencing something that has been around that long seems some what un-educated. I could probably go on, but…

Try cracking the cover of the book before you dismiss it. Chances are, there's something in there you could relate to.

If that's the REASON for doing something - YES. Everyone has reasons, they're not all good reasons, but they're reasons.

But consider this:
In Exodus it instructs the Jews fleeing Egypt, basically to crap outside their camp and bury it - thousands of years before germ theory.

There is another passage, I forget where, that says the Earth spins like this device that I think had something to do with thread or sewing - off its axis - just like the Earth does.

The first few chapters of Genesis talk about which creatures where created first - which just so happens to be in the order of which creatures supposedly evolved on Earth.

It also has Kosher eating, for example - don't mix meat and cheese. What do we do with meat today? - we take a spatula, put a raw patty on the grill, and then take it off the grill with the germs from the raw meat still on the spatula, and then we put cheese on it - which is moldy milk. Who KNOWS what kind of diseases we can get from that - especially before preservatives and ultraviolet radiation to sterilize stuff. You should READ the Bible sometime, it is most informative.

Why not? If it works, it's good.
I often use the Bible as a reference for the electrical schematics for my motorcycle computer. The fuel injection is a mystery that requires faith in something that I cannot understand. Then I take the machine to a high priest of Dyno Tune and he interprets the rest.
My ignorance is profound and if the book and the minister works, use it.
I feel much much better knowing that my minister says I have 158 hp and 147 ft. lbs. of torque at the rear wheel.
I feel better than the traditional Harley Krishnas. No make that I feel that I AM better than Harley Krishnas and more powerful.
Darn, I forgot the Ritalin again.

The bible is the most logical book ever written. It is a map to the only chance of salvation we will ever have. It was written by men of God. God fearing men who wrote what the Lord told them to write. Those who think of it as fictional will have a rude awakening one day when they stand before the ALMIGHTY and have to face how they lived here on this earth. Denying that God is real and saying the bible is only a contradiction. God created us all so why would he not leave us with directions as to how to live so we would be able to be with him after our bodies have gone back to dust. The bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. I would hate to think I did not have that option. For those non believers that is exactly what they will have. No option but to be present with Satan. I really feel sorry for those of you who do not know the Lord and his love. Who else would hang naked on a wooden cross and allow nails to be driven into his hands and feet. Allow the soldiers to whip him until the flesh is hanging off his body just to pave a way for our sins to be forgiven. They better start reading that bible instead of trying to disprove it.

There are many facts that support the idea that the Bible is true. For one there was many authors that didn't talk to each other when they wrote it over a span of 400 years and there is no place that contradicts itself. So the Bible is a great source of reference, better than the Internet.

An awful lot of the logic and reasoning that is used today comes from the bible. it is often accepted better by people if you don't tell where the idea came from. Sad isn't it!!!

The bible is based of historical fact. it has been proven by NON religious historians time and time again.

here is something to think about. the Bible was written by several different authors over a period of about 400 years. these authors had no contact with each other, and did not read each others work. and yet there is not as much as one contradiction in the whole book. you figure it out.
