Work on your run time, push ups, chin ups (pull ups) and sit ups. If you want to go to Ranger school (a quick way over there), you need to be able to do 80 push ups and 80 sit ups in 2 minutes each, at least 12 chin ups, and run 2 miles in 13 minutes or less. I would start doing all these exercises plus add a 5-6 mile road march now and then with a 35 pound pack with boots on. Good luck!! P.S. Opt for the round trip ticket!

If you want to lead a squad you better plan on being in for at least 5 - 6 years. The highest you can come in as is a Specialist / E - 4. Squad leader position is for E - 6, though experienced E - 5 do it when there is a shortage in E - 6s within the company. If you are joining right out of high school you might be able to go in as an E - 3 if you score high on the PT test and take some test the recruiter can give you that tests military knowledge. As far as promoting quickly in the military, the Army promotes well, especially if you go to Ranger School and you are in an infantry unit. Go to a light unit like the 82nd Airborne or the 101st, they are good combat units, despite the bad publicity due to a few idiots.

People truly are idiots sometimes, if you join, whether it be army, navy, marines or air force, you will almost be guaranteed a tour in iraq or afghanistan, it doesn't matter what mos you choose. You know what you need to do, be physically in shape before you go to BCT, keep your mouth shut, do what you are told exactly how you were told and always be motivated. Once you are in a real unit, stay motivated, listen to your leader, take a bit from each and mold your own style, if you want to lead, than lead, but don't expect to come out of BCT a leader, that takes time. If you have the attitude that you are the leader when you are not, people will not follow you. You must grow into that position, its not like you can just go up to a sergeant, challenge him to a fight and the winner is the leader. If you are out of high school, get some college, than you can come in as an E-4, but thats as high as you'll get.

congratulations! you now belong to a bunch of idiots! but seriously, for starters which branch? army just now went to a no weight limit on their people just as long as you're in shape. navy always has the seals and they kick your **** with physical training. marines are the most fit of the regular forces. air force is a joke. work your arms out a lot. try to get at least 20ullups or so. 100 crunches in 2 minutes helps too. run time for three miles should be around 18 minutes or so. if you can meet these requirements youll stand out as an awesome recruit and youll go far. be honest. if you dont know an answer say so. dont be a suck up. no one likes a suck up. think for yourself when given an order. is there a better way to do this but still get it done? books i reccomend would be marine corps leadership. it applies to all services not just the marines. sun tzus art of war is another good one. ummm.... lots of classes you could take like military strategy or psychology. if you want a one way ticket to iraq sign up as infantry. youll get a lot of physical training and you get to shoot all kinds of big guns! if you arent a morning person become one right now because youll usually be up way before the sun.
good luck!

newborn, there's a lot incorrect such as your "plan"! a million. The ASVAB is used to verify no matter when you're qualified to enlist, no longer fee. 2. in case you recommend on going the ROTC route, why are you talking about OCS? in case you won't be able to qualify to "settlement" by skill of ROTC, the probabilities of you being chosen for a fee by skill of OCS are somewhat narrow. 3. The army has the same advantages because the USMC. 4. you're literally unlikely to be a Linguist as an Officer; that's an enlisted MOS/price 5. you're literally unlikely to make $100K in preserving with 3 hundred and sixty 5 days!

A complete 24/7 series of shrink sessions. If that doesn't work check for physical defects. The only thing the machine will be sending over to Iraq that is new and they don't mind losig is going to be newbies.

For one thing you can start by getting rid of the "cocky" attitude.Because with that attitude you will be getting yourself a "ONE WAY TICKET TO IRAQ" and others who may serve UNDER you.
You already sound like some of the NCO's "I'm the NCO and it's my way and NO questions"
Start from the bottom and you'll appreciate it more and guys who you lead will "appreciate / trust" you

I am a former Marine. The first thing you need to do is ask yourself Why you want to join the military? Forget all the hype andreally examine your reasons. that is a hard thing to do. There is no glory is going to Iraq and killing people. Violence and war are not things that should be sought out.

Its going to take you a while to get to where you want to be. What is sounds like is you want to become an NCO in a combat MOS.
Just make sure you are fully prepared by consitrating on running, push ups, and sit ups.
Also a way to make rank quicker is to be in ROTC in HS. Other then that you just have to take it one day at a time...
