Peer pressure. If they don't like the girl that everybody's liking, there must be something wrong with him. Just kidding. It's all peer pressure. Guys have to compete with everybody, even if they don't really like the girl.

Maybe social status... This happen to me once. I had a friend that like this girl that I thought wasn't very attractive, but after awhile I slowly grew to like her.

I think it's because when you unavailable guys see it as a challenge to get you away from another guy. It's all a game to them...competition and what not.
