When do I introduce kids to good music, so that they don't grow up as yet another shallow Mtv byproduct?

As far as the womb goes, I think it's a good idea to listen to classical or baroque when a woman is pregnant, but it's a little late for that. Not only am I male, but the kids are 5 & 7.

Your definition of good music is going to be different than your kids. I personally always liked classic rock and my preteen liked whatever was current pop/rock. As he got to be mid' teens he learned why I liked the classic rock...he listened to the words and now he likes to listen to it with me. Also, he was fortunate to have rock music as a course in HS so he studied the history of it and now appreciates it on a different level. When I was little, my parents who are 40 yrs older than me, only let me listen to 40's and 50's music so I really appreciate the 60's and 70's for its meaning and hopefully you can make the right choice for your kids. Give them variety and a little history behind it. Good luck :)

Well, maybe you should let them decide for themselves what is good. Just make sure they have a wide variety of music choices. Any age will be fine. Even infants can benifit from music! Just make sure that you don't try to shove what you like on them. I dislike country, but my kid can listen if he/she wants to!
Should a young child listen to Gangster Rap? Probably not, but there are many, many types of great music. Control content, not type :)

As early as birth - you will have influence over their choices of music; but they hit that age where they will listen to that mtv crap anyway. You just have to grin and bear it! lol Get your child to learn an instrument early on also will have an influence of what they listen to. Spend time with your kids and turn on the music you like while their young and dance and sing and have fun. Those kinds of memories will stay with them long after that mtv phase!!!!
I still remember my mom singing to Smokey Robinson!!! And I still remember my dad rocking out to Santana!!!! Good memories and great music!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

The earlier the better! Never to young for music. Play good music when they are in the womb!

Introduce children to music from conception onward. But don't try to control their choices when they want to make them, k?
