It varies on models and size of the engine (number of pistons). For US patrol cars, it is V8 and factory standard speed is 120 mph. City run it consumes approximately 30 mpg.

Police Cars are modified to allow for faster speeds than "street legal" vehicles. Not to mention they usually purchase the larger engined vehicles for police cars, so they have more power under the hood, and the gas tanks are larger. They usually drive Crown Victorias, Thunderbirds, and the like. Lately they have been purchasing SUV's to give them some off road advantage as well.
No matter how fast a car is, you can not outrun Motorola (radio). So you may want to rethink that if that is your intentions.

What a question! Youre the same guy asked if it was legal to kill a person...specifically...Your Mom. ....Well anyway, probably between 120-140 mph, conditions pending. Im saying a paved highway, with little or no traffic. Traditionally, their MPG is not as good, as you would guess with the faster accelerations, higher speeds, frequent stops.

In Troy, Michigan, they use police edition Z-28's. A stock Z-28 is pretty fast, so I would add maybe 5 or 10 mph to that speed. In Auburn Hills (nearby) they use Charger HEMI's. M.P.G., gas tank size - I have no clue.

I heard on the news this morning Dodge has a new car that gets up to 150 mph. This vehicle will not be sold to the general public.
It didn't say gas tank size but several are now in service,

The top speed of a police car is the maximum speed it can go.
If you're wondering how you can outrun one.. that's different. It's actually not too difficult to outrun a police car. It's impossible to outrun their radio. They also have helicopters. There's also more of them than you.
Ever watch World's wildest police chases? They never end well do they?
Have fun.

i'd say the spectacular velocity would be a minimum of a hundred and twenty mph, and that they in all probability can bypass approximately 3 hundred miles on a tank of gasoline, yet if you consider that they have radios of their motor vehicle and distinctive police motor vehicle gadgets from all jurisdictions on the line, the police can in all probability shop utilising till they hit ocean.
