Time to move out of the house. Don't ask for consultation. Just do what you want. run all your Ideas past competent professionals, real estate agents other contractors, lawyers, cpa's.If you say you can't afford them. Then you are not serious enough and are just dabbling. Do you know anything about running a company? doing construction and running a construction company are two different things. make sure you write down all the facts on a piece of PAPER, this is important because it forces the brain to think differently than when you think internally. Sounds Like you think they are right or else you would not be asking this question. Real estate can be tricky. But if you are handy and if you have the time and money why not? Don't depend on it as your primary income though, unless you have tens of units

You are 22, hopefully got a job, and you are an adult. With that you are free to do as you wish, so if you want to start a construction company, you do neither need their approval nor their permission. It's the same with buying any property or stock. My Son is 22 and buying a house, he doesn't need my approval because he makes his own money and knows what he can afford---with other words: he doesn't need mom. So if you are in the same position, then you may very well do what you see fit. If you lose anything it will be you who is hurting not your parents or siblings---and if you are reasonable and good at it, then I do not see why you would lose anything...Go For It

Don't take offense, please, with my reply. But, either they know nothing about the areas you're interested in, or they DO know and they also know you and your past track record.

Do you finish what you start? Do you give up on things when things get a little difficult or lose interest after a while and want to move on to other things?

Do they know anything about running a business? What do YOU know about running a business? Are you aware of the tax codes and required filings, the licenses required, etc? Do you have a CPA and an attorney to advise you on what an endeavor of this nature requires? How well do they know YOU, your relatives and the attorney that will be looking out for your best interests?

Don't take it as an insult; they're probably trying to keep you from making a huge financial mistake, and they mean well. They are not necessarily trying to put you down or keep you down. Perhaps your past actions indicates to them that you will finish what you start or that you will abandon your enterprise as soon as it gets tough.

Do a little soul-searching and be totally honest with yourself. Can they possibly be right in their assessment of you and your past actions?

On the other hand, maybe they're the kind of people that were born to work for others all their life and are afraid that you might not succeed... and maybe you have the will power they lack to succeed? What do YOU think?

Best wishes.

Dude, trust me. When i was 22 pretty much every idea I had would have flopped. You should listen to your parents man. Starting any business is a risky deal. Do you even have a business plan written out? I know it sucks to be told that things are a bad idea, but 95% of the time they are probally right. I would consider any advice they give and use it especially if they are doing well for themselves. It is a possibility though you could do well in those things I would just take things slow and really weigh out my options before rushing into anything crazy. Peace man.

Go ahead and dare to be different!!!!! 99.999% of most people in life are always going to disagree!!!! This is life but I was always the black sheep also and just went ahead and did as I thought was right. You should also! You cannot go wrong with real estate, go ahead and purchase it and reap the rewards years from now when the real estate skyrockets. I bought a run down old shack ten years ago for 24,000. and its worth about 95,000. Learn to stop telling your family what your doing and just go ahead and do it. Opinions are like you know whats, everybody has one! You'll do fine with whatever you do in life! I have faith in you!

If you still want to start a construction company, go for it and show your family that you know what your doing.

They are offering advice. Without tact. At least on the income property. If they ALWAYS disagree with you, your the black sheep of your family. I am of mine. Not much you can do, but expect it, and, if you can, don't ask them. Ask others.. Not your family.

I can't say why but don't let them bring you down. Set a goal, make a plan, and go achieve it. You may have to try a few things before you find success. Just don't give up.

I went through this, but in my case everybody wanted me to do what they wanted to and shot down everything i wanted. Then one day i decided that it was my life and i have to live it so decided to do what i wanted and only told people about it that was supportive, unfortunatley it was my freinds. As time past and they saw i was doing good then all my family started supporting me
