I thought I could go back and make corrections but it says I can only do that if it's processed (which it can't be processed now bc she hasn't signed electronically). It says it's missing my parents pin# which isn't working w/her real ss# or all 0s as the ss#. I tried to start completely over but it isn't working. What is the problem and what do I have to do now?

I had a student run into a similar problem today. We called the FAFSA hotline for assistance.

1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 1-319-337-5665

It sounds like you had not actually submitted the FAFSA yet, only saved it. Try going in under the link "Continue working on a saved FAFSA". You will need to remember the password you gave for yourself.

Another option might be to go into "Fill out a Renewal FAFSA" which will import some of you information from a previous FAFSA.

The zeros may have really confused the computer.

As far as I know you can't start completely.. However if you can't edit them (which is unusual because I filed the FAFSA and edited after that just fine. Even one of my friend edited his FAFSA before getting the pin). You have to call the FAFSA hotline and make sure you have the confirmation # or whatever they provided you during the time of submitting ready. Getting a pin takes 2 weeks by mail but only few days by email. I suggest you go for email (since time is running out).

However, starting from scratch won't work or you shouldn't do it. Because it will jeoperdize your record and may even create complication towards your eligibility.

Have you tried opening the file through "continue working on a saved fafsa" or "check status of a submitted fafsa"?

Dependency on the FAFSA isn't the comparable as dependency on the tax return. whilst it consists of the FAFSA, it would not rely which determine claimed you as a based on his/her return. it extremely is as a results of fact divorced mum and dad oftentimes have a courtroom order as component to their divorce decree that determines which determine can declare you. as an occasion, many mum and dad have an contract that demands them to commerce claiming the baby as a based, so utilising the tax return does no longer be a reliable foundation to confirm who's rather offering help to the student. Federal student help regulations state that a based student could checklist the earnings of the determine with whom he lived maximum in the process the previous 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. If he did no longer stay with the two determine, then he could checklist the earnings of the determine who maximum those days provided the main help for him, whether that replaced into various years in the past.

You should probably ask your financial aid advisor, they should know.
