Well, I don't know about "fixing" it, though I wouldn't be surprised, but I've read where there is active politicking going on. I'm sure they lobby before the elections, too. And I imagine that the prior Pope let's it be known who he wants to succeed him, which I think he did with this guy. What sort of additional safeguards do you think they need since we're not really allowed to do anything in regard to the election of a Pope but to cheer when the white smoke comes out of the chimney no matter who it is.

I agree, it is about time for a black pope and in the future maybe a woman. After all, the percentage of old white guys is diminishing and they won't be able to hold on to power indefinitely, particularly after global warming melts the ice caps and floods the Vatican. Besides, all the old beaches will be buried.

I'm not Catholic, first off. Secondly, it seems to me that enough safeguards were taken during the election of the new pope. In truly catholic style there was a lot of secrecy.

well one time when they couldnt make up their mind the ripped teh roof off , locked them in and refused them food and water untill they voted one in, then another ran a brothel from teh vatican, then there was a while when there was two popes
after 2000 years i think they have seen it all before , safegardes is an american idea
