The success of any decorating scheme depends on how well it suits all the members of your family. To create a décor that you will be happy with, think about what you want and also what you don’t want.
It’s a good idea to know what you have before you begun to change things. As you begin to pull your design ideas together, think about your preference and what will work in your home.
Color can work wonders... it can change the look of a room and change your feeling about the room. You can start by looking through magazines, and catalogs. Give yourself plenty of time, it will take longer than you think, and your ideas will develop as you go.
Gathering samples is a great way to begin. If you are starting with a color, your samples might include fabric, paint chips, wallpaper, carpet, wood, stone, and tile.
Knowing what you can spend on a project will give you a clearer idea of what you can achieve. If you’ll on a limited budget, mark off those things that will make the most difference, such as a new wall color and a new sofa.
You can set the mood of a room in lots of ways, such as lights, and furnishings. There are no hard or fast rules or must-do sequence for this process.

You're used to a plain and simple room, so the trick is to spice it up without making it not feel like your space anymore. These are just my suggestions.
First, pick a color. Do you want your room to feel cheerful? I'd say go with a warm melon color. Do you want it to feel peaceful? I'd recommend a sage green. Do you want a modern feel? Then go with brown or red. Then, paint the walls your chosen color.
Buy whatever new bedding you can afford that matches the new color. Don't forget to add some decorations.
A very good way to add interest to your room is to add things that you find interesting. A favorite throw blanket that your grandmother made? A picture that you took, or a sculpture that you made?
And don't worry about being all matchy-matchy. I can't completely explain color theory to you, but any google search will explain it to you.
You'd be surprised at how much a new paint job and bedding set can make an old room seem new.

Do you have a favorite item like furniture, a picture, a blanket?
Use that as your "model".
Take the colors from it and use them throughout the room.
Take the design of it and expand it throughout the room.
For example, if you have a comforter with a really cool design and colors on it that you just LOVE, take one of the colors and make the walls that color. Do the trim in a lighter shade of that color or white.
Get sheets to match (a lighter color).
Find some fun drapes or fabric for drapes that kind of match the comforter (same colors, different designs or similar designs).
You can use that same fabric to put over lamp shades.
Find fabric in the colors from this item and put them over books and boxes and binders and other things that might make your room look "cluttery". Even over picture frames that don't match works too.
Get a real fun and funky rug. Sometimes very spunky with the matching colors, or big and shaggy and black, or one of the colors from the item, or whatever.
Paint the furniture (if it isn't already a nice matching set) white or black (depending on what colors you choose. Remember black will tone down a light-colored room and white will soften a brightly-colored room).
Hang a canopy for your bed out of sheers of a variety of colors that also match, or black or white, from the ceiling. (so fun!). You can buy little hooks that you can screw into the ceiling. Get LOTS of them and put them directly above the bed along the edge all the way around.
You can even add rope light to the inside of the canopy on the ceiling, or rope light around the edge of the room on the top of the wall along the edge of the ceiling.
You can also put up wainscoating along the wall, but do it either 1/3 the way up or 3/4 the way up, not 1/2 way up. Do it in either a really dark or really light color to contrast the rest of the wall. You can put trim along the tops of the walls along the ceiling as well.
The sky's the limit!
I suggest looking in magazines for ideas that you LOVE and online at Better Homes & Gardens, Pier 1, and Home Decorators Collection, etc.

It depends on the room itself...is it the bedroom, living room, kitchen??? The most inexpensive way to add excitement to a room would be with paint. If you aren't sure what your decorating style is you should start looking at magazines and make a scrapbook of all the things that you like out of them. Then you can start to collect items copied from the pictures you have saved.

It depends on wat colors u like. like maybe if u like bright colors u might want some pinks and lime greens. You want to put mirrors and picture frames to give yur room the better look of making it look bigger.
