6 1/8 .Both fractions need to have the same denominator (the number on the bottom.) If you don't know what a number is that they share, multiple the top and the bottom of one fraction by the bottom number of the other. Then do the same for the remaining fraction. In this case, 8 is the lowest number so you multiple the top and bottom of the first number and get 14 4/8 and 8 3/8. 14-8 is 6 and 4-3 is one and the bottom stays an 8.

there's an easier way out
14 -- 8 + 1/2 -- 3/8

6 + 4 -- 3 / 8 ( Taking 8 as the LCM )

6 + 1/8

therefore it's 6 1/8 0r mixed form 49/8
