Yes it is.....the patient needs to relax and breathe in slowly to accomodate the tube. It's unpleasant but experienced staff can see you through the procedure!

I have never even heard of the rectum being even involved in a Barium Imaging Procedure. As far as I know Barium Imaging Procedure's are typically used as a instrument to evaluate the Upper GI tract. Don't know if this will be necessarily comforting or helpful.
