Kidney disease is not contagious and is not something you "catch" from being "exposed".

Risk factors for kidney disease are:
high blood pressure
diabetes mellitus
family history (genetic diseases, such as polycystic kidney disease, that are caused by genetic defects)
age (chances of kidney disease increase in elderly)
race
obesity
certain medications
