I am the president of a community service club at my high school. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for community service projects that we could do. Thanks for your help.

Well, people are total pigs sometimes. There`s always time to pick up trash. You do something to raise money for a cause. You could help out at a local library and if you`re in a place where you don`t have one, you can start trying to raise money for the community to make one. You could set up some school programs too. Tutoring and something that would let kids without a lot of friends socialize and meet some new friends. Community service isn`t limited to working at shelters and things, its anything that will benefit your community. Maybe start a service for after school where members with cars can pick kids up after school and bring them to a members house or any community building to watch them until working parents get home. Be creative, there`s a lot of things that a community can benefit from. The problem is that most of them involve money so you`d have to find some way for the club to make some. If a lot of the mambers are old enough to drive, you could drive kids to sports, and anywhere else they need to be driven. Oh, and by the way I just wanted to add that a community service club is a great idea, and I hope they can add one at our local high school.

I am a member of the service council at my college. We have a lot of service projects. Every spring break we team up with Habitat for Humanity and build a house. And once a month we take a group of students to a public service entity such as the homeless shelter, or the food bank, we take a tour of the facility and then perform a service project for them.
Right now I am setting up a Service Buffet. That is a place that students can go to anytime that the school is open and do a service project of their choice. There are several projects set up at all times so that people can have a choice. Some are quick so that people who have only five minutes can contribute, as well as projects that may take a bit longer for the people who have a while to spend there. Some things that we are doing are; making ornaments to put on a Christmas tree that we will donate, tieing a quilt, making puppets, knitting hats, decorating food boxes, making hospice cards. I don't know if this would work in a high school setting, but maybe it will give you some ideas.
I suggest looking around for nonprofit agencies in your area and seeing if they need any volunteers, or need stuff to be donated that can be made by hand.

Check out the Community Services where you live.
My sons and I are going to our Community Service center to sort out can goods, bag them to be distributed to the needies.
There will be about 25 people doing this for about 2 hours to bag about 800 bags.
Also Check with some churches, they could give you some ideas on what the community needs.

Contact your local church and see if they do any work with the homeless. Sometimes they will feed the homeless several times a week, and they also provide clothing.

You could also volunteer time at an after school program tutoring kids that live in at risk neighborhoods.

You can also contact your local RedCross and see if they have an volunteer work that you can help with. Also try the Salvation Army. These organizations also provide safe havens for women/mothers escaping from abusive husbands. They need things like clothes for kids, toys, and clothes for women.

Start a campaign to teach people not to throw down trash but to save it for the trash bin. Every day I pick up candy wrappers, ice cream wrappers, soda bottles and cans, and even beer bottles that have just been tossed into the street. It would be so nice to have a clean neighborhood and city. And for people who cannot wash their own pets, have a dog bath day in the church or school parking lot. The pet stores charge round $40 for a small dog. Old people can't afford that, but would pay a reasonable amount for a school function.

You can volunteer at the nursing home, go to your state rep. office and do volunteer work (voter registration) volunteer at the school and do painting around the school.
Call city hall in your neighborhood and asked for a list in your city that will let you do community service. Try the red cross org. they definitely need volunteers all the time.Go to a mission soup kitchen and help them serve food.

Best choice is to CLEAN.

Clean up vacant land, Streets, cut the lawn at deserted buildings, sweep sidewalks...offer to clean gutters for the elderly..(or ANYthing for the elderly)

If you live near water, clean the shoreline.

CLEAN...it needs to be done and few people do it
