NEVER EVER EVER buy from a pet store... sure they offer a 1 year guarantee against genetic defects... what they don't tell you is that 90+% of genetic problems don't show up until the dog is 2-5 years old. And you really want to be able to check out the parents to get a good idea of how the dog will look and behave as an adult. That isn't possible at any pet store. That and you don't want to know what happens to the puppies and parents before you see that cute little thing in the window...

On to your question...
I'm going to give you some facts that most people on here don't want to share with you. When you rescue a dog from a humane society you must consider some things... like why is the dog there in the first place? And, how long has it been there? Once a dog has been imprisoned for 3 months they almost always develop major behavioral problems. This is, of course, not including the fact that an overwhelming majority of these dogs were given up for behavioral reasons. It's generally a result of them not being trained properly. But training a 2 year old who is well set in his bad habits is more difficult than training a puppy who just doesn't know how to act yet.
Breed rescues are a bit better... but they often have unrealistic goals for their ideal owner. That is, a majority of rescue groups refuse to adopt out dogs unless the owners fit a very rigid set of standards. Owning your own house, having no young children, and a fenced in yard are more than standard for the major breed rescues. Toy breed rescues are a bit more leniant... And, just like the humane society, there was a reason they were given up and most of the time it is because of either behavioral or health issues. Sometimes you can find a great animal in these places, but oftentimes, unless you can find a puppy under 6 months, you are setting yourself up for a lot of trouble. That said, I still recommend you look there first.

Those are the two largest yorkie rescues...
You can also search on http://www.petfinder.org which is an excellent resource for locating specific animals.
If you're willing to put some time into it, you can find a great animal for you at a rescue or shelter... but PLEASE don't just say this one is cute and fill out the application...
A yorkie puppy is going to run you somewhere between $350-600 for a pet which came from a 'backyard breeder' and in the range of $800-2000 from a show breeder... unless you plan on buying a show quality puppy and eventually showing him, you shouldn't pay more than $1,000 from a respectable and professional breeder. Backyard breeders are anyone who does not show their dogs and usually had a litter for one of three reasons... financial (they want the money) emotional (they just love puppies) or psychological (they think their female 'needs' to have a litter.) Show breeders typically are doing it for two reasons, money and in some cases because they actually love the breed and are trying to improve/sustain the breed. You'll know in the first 3 minutes which reason they are breeding, if they mention price very quickly that is why they had the litter and you should probably look somewhere else... this is getting a bit long... sorry ;-) but that should answer your question throroughly... puppies are a lot of work, but so is adoption in most cases. Do some research, visit some Yorkie breeder webpages and make sure it is the breed for you before you buy or rescue one.

At pet stores anywhere from 2000 to 3000 dollars (At least here in the OC where I'm from), there you get congenital (hereditary) health insurance for one year. A "free" vet visit, which only covers a physical so if you want to run worm tests or anything else guess who has to pay for it....Depending on the store you will also recieve a pedigree (which is pretty worthless unless you plan to show the dog) and microchip which is enlisted with your contact information should the dog ever run away. (Your vet can install this chip for a 70 dollar fee if you wish)
I used to work at a pet store for dogs and i can tell you right now not to buy a yorkie from a pet store, they are very sickly when it comes to hypoglycimic disorder (low blood sugar due to not eating) and the store will find any excuse possible to get out of paying a vet bill.
Buy one from a breeder, it will be appx 1000 to 1500 dollars and much happier since they are not caged up. You also get to see how they act in a real home environment and have the advantage of picking the one you want.

Breeder or a pet store, If you go with a breeder you might have to pay shipping, and if something happens to the puppy, like die, you will have a VERY hard time getting anything back (money, new puppy) If you get one from a pet store you have a better chance of them helping you.1st) No such think as a TOY YORKIE. they should not be over 7lbs full grown. In a pet store you can look to pay from 1,500 on up the smaller the puppy at 8 weeks the more it will cost..... but LOOK out.... a small puppy is something you need to be careful of. They need alot of looking after. They can not eat, drink, blood sugar can go to low and the will seize. read up do your homework $$$$$$$ in vet bills if your not careful

Breeders.net or AKC.org should help you find a good breeder.
Depending on if you are looking for a pet or show quality will depend on the price range. Just make sure that you screen the breeder and feel comfortable with the answers you get regarding your new family member.

I don't know how much a Yorkie would cost, but look for a reputable breeder, not a pet shop.

I think you should get it at an animal shelter it is usually about 50$ to adopt and you would be saving that dogs life.
