It maybe possible and it's great that you're both in good health, but the baby may end up with Down Syndrome or Spinal Bifada. Most women over 35 run into that problem. Are you ready to deal with those consequences? And do you realize you will be 72 and your husband will be 55 when this child graduates, IF your child DOESN'T have disabilities and can function enough to attend school? Then you have to think about marriage and grandchildren...will you be around when these thing happen? Your husband will probably be around, but you're older and may not be. I realize any one of us can go any minute and it shouldn't matter how old you are, but you really should think about your age as an issue. I would think this thing through very carefully...If it were me....I would adopt!! For one thing, you wouldn't be starting over. You can adopt a child who is 2, 3, 4 years old. Then you know you aren't going to miss out on things later on in life. And given that, you wouldn't have to worry about the child having disabilities. It would be a normal child, living a normal life. But that's just a suggestion. Good luck to you. I hope it works out.

Good for him, how do you feel about it?
Modern medicine seems to be able to take a post-menapausal woman allow her to utilize her womb to "grow" another woman's child. But then, comes the consideration of how old mom will be when the child graduates from high school; uhhmmm, lets see, giving you the benefit of the doubt that you just turned 54 and everything works out well and quickly, you'd be somewhere around 72 years old! Is that fair to you? to this child? to your studmuffin who will be 55 and most likely gone?
You have a lot to think about, not the least of which is a man who would ask this of you!!!!

It has nothing to do with the man (80 year old dude can still pop out kids), but everything to do with you. Even women in late 30's will start to have more risks in having a child. It may turn out to be a very precarious pregnancy.

I'm not sure if it's because of the egg or other issues. If it's not because of the egg, and if you can afford it, maybe you can have a younger surrogate mother to carry your child? The complete type where it's your egg and his sperm, but carried by the surrogate.

I'd say talk to your doctor.

Seems highly unlikely without some extraordinary measures being taken, and even then, highly unlikely. But ask your doctor. In fact, ask your doctor to refer you to the best fertility doctor in your area, because you are most likely going to need a specialist. Nobody here can tell you what your chances of getting pregnant are.
