Thorazine is an antipsychotic. It is prescribed for any psychotic state, schizophrenia most commonly, but also for uncontrolled agitation found in mental illness, alzheimer's disease and drug abuse. It is ann old drug and there are more modern alternatives with less risk. Don't stop it, but ask the doctor for somthing a bit "lighter" if it is bothering you. And no, it isn't a narcotic, but it is a controlled substance.

That is an anti-psychotic medication - commonly prescribed for patients with schizophrenia. Also used in mental hospitals to calm a wild and manic patient down. No - it is not a narcotic, though it may be scheduled, thus making it a controlled substance. The website I provided will tell you more about the law of Thorazine.

Chlorpromazine ( Thorazine ) is an antipsychotic drug of low-potency used to treat schizophrenia. Chlorpromazine ( Thorazine ) is used in the treatment of disorganized and psychotic thinking.

The habit-forming potential is none (it is not a narcotic), but long term use may lead to Tardive Dyskinesia.( a serious, irreversible neurological disorder.....a side effect of taking antipsychotic neuroleptics drugs).......

Thorazine is used for the treatment of schizophrenia (severe disruptions in thought and perception). It is also prescribed for the short-term treatment of severe behavioral disorders in children, including explosive hyperactivity and combativeness; and for the hyperenergetic phase of manic-depressive illness (severely exaggerated moods).

Thorazine is also used to control nausea and vomiting, and to relieve restlessness and apprehension before surgery. It is used as an aid in the treatment of tetanus, and is prescribed for uncontrollable hiccups and acute intermittent porphyria (attacks of severe abdominal pain sometimes accompanied by psychiatric disturbances, cramps in the arms and legs, and muscle weakness).
