Its definitely on the way out. Now, people are more educated and informed, they can see religion for what it is - hypocritical fairy tales.

People will never stop believing in someone or something, and that is what is religion, Just because young people r getting drunk and not going to church does not mean they are not believers, they has always been that kind of people or group in society.

No...unfortunately.
I think all understanding comes from within.
I resent being told what I should believe. I am capable of my own decisions and understandings of right and wrong.
I don't do things because a faith says I should/not. I do what I can to do the best I can and if God doesn't like it then there is not much more I can do. Sorry, tough! basically.
At the end of the day, you cannot argue with God and he makes the decisions - you answer to him. So if you need to do his bidding to go to Heaven, then that to me is fear of the unknown.
People that think by destroying themselves they go to Heaven whilst taking others with them need to seriously question themselves. IMHO. You can believe anything deeply if always thought that way and is frightening to think differently because of society's programming of fear. When I have questioned myself, I've looked to see what people have said to me and what I think have influenced who I am. And even I have had influence.
That's why I do what I believe is right and nothing more. You cannot prove right or wrong. I think if someone truly believes something is just, how can you be punished for it. However, if you don't believe it just and do it because the religion says you have to, then you are answerable. IMHO.
I like to think of God in terms of the Universe and how we relate to it. I think there is something, but no idea what. Being told what that is, is not enough for me. I am interested in people's inputs, but I need something more concrete than just text.
Especially text that is now politically correct so God is now a woman. Make your minds up!
* Frog - Even those dropping religions still have belief IMHO. People want something to believe in. Being in a discussion such as this one, only shows that you still want an answer - or you wouldn't care to be looking.

Starks and Brenwich wrote a book entitled Fragmented Gods in which they tackle this issue and explain that while adherence to main line religions is in decline, overall religiosity remains constant as people find other outlets for their spiritualism and belief systems. Cults, fortune telling and alternate religions are actually on the rise.

Why call it a fraud? Some religious organizations have fabulous programs set up for their patrons. They will help someone in need, they will help the community, they offer counseling, classes, and all kinds of good things. Religious groups can be a fabulous resource for people.
As far as kids- kids will be kids. Do we think there was no sex in the 50s? Do we think there was no sex in the 20s? Of course there was. But some kids are starting to backlash against what they see as mind control and things that don't really apply to their lives. This won't destroy religion, but may delay full and honest joiners until they are older and start to fear death.

Religion is on the way out but it doesn't follow that getting laid and getting drunk is going to drop in to fill the void. There will be no void to fill. Instead normality will be less polluted..

It's not surprising that most young people want to drink and party, it's certainly the way I spent my youth. But that doesn't change the truth which is that they will end up in a mess without Jesus. Revival is coming (UK), our church already has many teenagers who are happy to give up their old habits and live for Jesus.

do you mean Christianity? if you do then the answer is no. go to a U2 concert and see how many young people are there worshiping God. for that matter go to any concert by a young Christian group.
If you are speaking of religion in general, then the answer is no, there will always be some form of religion, maybe even yours'

IF ONLY......
But most people have always preferred getting laid or drunk to going to church. That doesn't mean that they are making any real decisions about religion.
There are a lot of GOD-BOTHERERS around, and plenty alive and kicking on Answers.

Yes, getting laid and drunk is so much more fulfilling! (<--sarcasm)
No, religion will never be gone; man will always be searching for greater meaning. It seems to be built into the human race.
