Because a cup of coffee causes everything???

Because tea is and always been the mostly obvious solution for hum kind... perhaps you need a cuppa!

Or because its hot (really good in cold physicall and emotional times,) often has sugar in it (energy rush - increases blood levels and body's natural healing/ defence) is caffeinated (natural pick me up as increases heart rate muscle stimulation...)

...and once you feel warm full of energy and a bit awake, all other problems can start to be tackled with other more focused solutions (unless the problem was actually thirst or being cold!)

I only wish it did! Then maybe I wouldn't have split with my fella 6 weeks ago, the cats would stop moulting over EVERYTHING!, I'd find my favourite CD which has disappeared off the face of the earth (maybe the stereo's eaten it?), I wouldn't have burnt the backside off the saucepan yesterday while chatting on the phone, my phone bills would be cheaper, I'd never get a spot on my chin the day of an important interview / date, and patients on my ward would SLEEP at night so I could take it easy and spend more time on here!

It's a 'time-out' thing. Nice cup of tea and a sit down and chat, even if it doesn't directly solve anything it calms and gives perspective. Of course being British, the only problem is drinking my cuppa, with my stiff............upper lip.

Just like when you were little and fell down and skinned your knee... mom was always there with a cookie. Food has become the be thought of as nurturing... and a lot of people when feeling a bit sad or lonely... will eat to fill that void. I think it's okay to share a cup of tea or coffee with friends... but not to use it for comfort or nurturing. (Using it for these can lead to overeating or just plain eating for purposes other than you are hungry.)

Well its not the tea its the spending time fussing over someone in distress or trouble. It makes them feel good and you for being there to help .Something like a trouble shared is a trouble halved.

it seems to be the british way when someone has a problem ''have a nice cup of tea and you'll feel much better'' but it has never made me feel better but a vodka and coke on the other hand soon cheers me up :-))

Think it is to stop you pacing and to sit down and talk about the problem. Making a cuppa only takes a few Min's. (If you use an electric kettle) It also helps the person who is trying to calm you feel helpful and do something.

Yes it is definitely a British thing.

I know. Weird. The process of making it and drinking it gives you time to calm down and start to think rationally. It also gives you a lift if you have had a trauma(the sugar content), and some caffeine will also give you a bit more energy and focus.
