involving small children in the back seat? My girl friend wants to know if anyone has ever experienced this before and if they had would they be interested in writing to her and tell her how they coped with this situation. The children were not harmed in any way nor was anyone else thank God. She is suffering right now with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and she is taking anti-depressant medications. The medicines don't seem to be doing her any good. She needs to talk to someone who has gone through the same thing as she had gone through. She doesn't have a computer, but would like someone to contact her through snail mail that has gone through this same ordeal and could give her some helpful information on how to cope with her anxieties and fears. Honest and sincere answers only please. Thank you!

I want to thank each and everyone who has answered truthfully my question. Also many thanks goes to the ones who showed interest in writing to my friends. I just hope this gives my best friend the feeling that she is not alone, and she isn't the only one on this planet who has ever had this experience in her life.

I highly recommend seeing a Somatic Experiencing practitioner or read Dr. Peter Levine's book "Waking the Tiger", founder of SE. He is one of the best (maybe "the") experts on treating the root cause of PTSD and trauma in general.

My personal experience and results was very positive. It was something that worked. I was never on any meds, but I would leave that up to a professional and the person's own intuition as to what they need/don't need.

The theory of SE is that we are taught to stop the natural cycle of processing a traumatic event. The event wants to be completed, so it gets "stored" in our body and we see symptoms like PTSD to let us know it's there and wants to be completed. SE helps complete the cycle of a traumatic event. It might take one session, or several, but when it happens, it can happen very quickly in a safe therapeutic environment.

Send me her snail mail and I would be happy to share my experience with her.

Actually when my son was only a year 1/2, We were in an accident that cause him to break him clavical (collar bone) He had to walk around the house with a sling around his neck. It was aweful to me but he didn't seem to mind he acted as though everything was okay. So the time it took for him to heal I was able to start a life long close relationship with him.
It's all how you look at it.

I would strongly recommend her having a conversation with a professional consuelor face to face. Nothing to be ashamed of. If the problem effects her life this much, then dont waste time or take a chance with someone from this type of forum. Speak to someone trained.

I would be glad to talk to your friend. I was in an accident 4
years ago and my grandaughter was in the back seat. She was
6 months old at the time. It was absolutely horrible!!!
The important thing is no one was hurt, but please tell her not
to obsess about what could have happened, it did'nt thank God,
but constantly thinking about it could and will drive you literally
CRAZY!!

E-mail me back with her address and I would write her if she
needs me to.
