what gives you the motivation to learn something on your own?

I've been meaning to learn guitar on my own for three years now
but everytime after a while i quit cause i got lazy
so i haven't progressed at all
so i need some tips on motivating myself to learn guitar

Think how far you'd be and what you could play if you had put an effort into it 3 years ago. And think how good you could be in 3 years if you start now.

I am motivated I guess for many different reasons.

I learned to knit, because I was bored and fell in love with it. The more I learned and the things I could make, encouraged me to learn more things to do.

I learned construction take-off estimating, so I could work at home and earn more money. Now within a few months I was working on the coolest projects. See the things they are going to build is pretty cool. I just worked on a new water park they are going to build in La Mirada Cal.
And i do it in my PJ and my kitchen table.

I have a motto "Wishing and wanting won't get it done"

if you really are passionate about something you will do it.

I love to learn so i try to do new things every year.

I started to paint last year, and im starting to learn german in 2 weeks.

Perhaps you arent as passionate about the guitar as you once were. Try a new instrument perhaps? Or maybe pay lessons, the fact that you are paying money make motivate you to attend the classes.

I think the only thing that can really give you the motivation to learn something on your own is genuine interest. Maybe pick a song that you love, and make it your goal to learn how to play it.

i get motiveted by a person or a purpose if i had a purpose to learn the guitar it would be cus i am planning to get in a band or entertain people
