My parents run a dog rescue and they recently took in a stray who was found.(We named her Lily.) She is absolutely adorable but extremely thin. When she was found, a passerby thought she was dead. We are so grateful we got her when we did. She has gained some weight in the month or so since my Parents took her in, but not very much. She is always throwing up. This is not a problem for my parents, but we just want to find what is wrong with her so we can maje it better for her. My parents have tried everything and the vet - who is incredible - has no clue what could be the problem.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?
She is extremely thin and usually very warm to the touch and usually throws up whenever she is excited or immediately after eating or drinking. She throws up so many times a day, I don't know how she can even manage to gain weight at all.
She has a birth defect where her tongue hangs out to the side most of the time. Could this have anything to do with it?

We think she was dumped because of this problem. She may have been neglected during birth at a breeder, this is what we guess to be the cause of the birth defect. She is otherwise completely healthy.

She has been thouroughly checked. Inside and out. Tapeworm and all the obvious things have been eliminated. Her esophagus and stomach and intestines have already been examined and they can find nothing wrong. They did exploratory surgery and still could find nothing.
We thought maybe it could be the equivalent of acid reflux and have had her on meds, but even that doesn't work.
I was just hoping maybe someone would recognize these symptoms and know the cause. It is nothing obvious. It must be something very rare.

You have probably tried some of these suggestion:
Change the food.
Cut the portions way down and feed 4 or 5 x's a day.
Parvo?
Allergies?
Make a BRAT diet for a while see if she can hold that down.
Does warmth mean fever? Tried antibiotics?
Whats her blood sugar?
Diabetes?
and finally......good luck. m

Try another vet. Sounds like an abnormality in the esophagus and/or stomach. Try a liquid diet...

We had something similar to this at our shelter recently. Has her liver been checked? How about a heartworm test? It turns out our dog had heartworms so bad that her liver was shutting down. She made it all the way through her second heartworm treatment and died. Her previous owners moved and left her behind. My brother found her walking across his property to the woods, he thinks to die before taking her to our shelter.

I would think the exit from her stomach is very little or almost plugged. you would need to feed her alittle bit many times a day. Liquids if nothing else. good luck

I would try a different vet. But I think that is so sweet what you and your parents are doing for her!
