add about a cup of cold water to the pan- the water will soften the hamburger so you can break it up, then it will evaporate as the meat cooks. I often just boil my hamburger starting from cold water to cover (breaking it up with my hands is easiest) then strain off the water that's left, which reduces the fat.

Hi there. When ever I due ground beef I will cook on medium heat and devide as you are cooking it. You get it all scrambled , I sometimes pull it all apart when I first add it to the pan. Once you have it in the sizes you want then you can add your spices or sauces, what ever way you are thinking of and make sure you do not cook on high unless you like very well done like I do. I use a pot in place of a fry pan then you can stir it more without fat spitting at you. It works better to ground it up that way. Hope this was helpful. good Luck

Heat up pan to medium high and add 1/4 cup water until it starts to bubble.
Add ground beef in small chunks to the pan and breakup with spatula. I have a wooden spatula that works great for this job.
Keep on breaking up the ground beef and the water will evaporate.
Never use frozen ground beef as you can't get it in small chunks to add to the pan.

I start with it small, break off chunks from the raw pound, then break it up with my spatula while I am frying it. If it is still too big, I let it cool a bit, generally after I drain it, and break it up by hand. If there is a trick to getting it small, I do not know it!

If you take it out of the fridge about an hour before you begin to cook it will be a little softer and be easy to separate when you start frying.

I guess I am the only one that does this. I use a potato masher. After it is browned I just mash it. Another thing, if you get heartburn from your ground meat dishes, rinse it off before you season it. You would be surprised how much fat is even in ground round. My mom used to cook chili and we would have to dredge the grease off the top. I learned this after I was married.

I just kind of break it up with my spatula after I put it in the frying pan, as it cooks. I cut it in half, then each half in half, then each of those in half, until all the pieces are really small.

Crumble it up with your hands while you put it in the pan and as it cooks stay right there and chop at it with your spatula.

All about the spatula. You got to basically 'beat it to death'. Also using fully defrosted meat helps as well.
