Look at the nutritional label. Margarine barely beats butter in the fat department and it typically has more sodium. You may as well go with the butter. This answers your question if you are asking "Butter or margarine" as a purely health related question.

As far as cooking with one...and which one is better? I think I would stay with butter and oils for anything non-baking. When baking feel free to use margarine in place of butter, however, for cookies you will not get any crispiness you may be looking for. Margarine will yield softer cookies.

Tough but I would have to say Butter, because no one ever really knows how to spell Margarine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, I love pudding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
