Old. LOL I can't speak for anyone else but for me it's more professional and less hassle and really more modern than french braiding and pinning my hair up everyday.

I think women cut their hair short when they get into their 30's & 40's is because they just don't have the time to do their hair, with kids, work and household duites the hair just takes a backseat. Many women who keep their long hair just put it back in a ponytail or a braid. By cutting their hair short they can have style that is easy and fun to maintain. I think there are tons of styles that are cute and sassy for women. I know when I have children, I'll probably cut my hair off and get a sassy short style.

First women in their 30's and 40's are not old...They usually cut their hair short because they have such busy lives they don't have the time to primp and spend hours on long hair..I wore my hair short for a long time because I was in the military and having long hair was not pratical..Now though , in my late 40's I love having long hair..I can wear it down or put it up in a nice bun or pony tail...It is up to personal taste...I think long hair can make a woman look older than she really is if it is not properly styled or cared for or if she just wears it with the what I call...wicked witch look....

I don't know why that is but I am in my 40's and my hair is still long. I think short hair makes most women look older.

You are right! I don't like short hair on older women either. It makes them look either gay or rough - does no justice to their face at all.
I am an older women and have always worn my hair flowing and soft.
However, back in 80's short hair was in and I had short hair then, but now - no way. Long is the way to go.

The older a woman gets, the older she looks with long hair. I myself cut my waist length hair in my middle 30's. I looked noticably younger & my best friend just recently cut her waist length hair this year (she is 46) & the difference is very dramatic. Every woman I know who has cut their hair short or to shoulder length looks 10 years younger. So the answer would be Vanity I guess but whatever works.

When you get older your face shape changes (that's why some people get face lifts) and long hair usually accentuates that change. Shorter hair draws attention away from the jaw line where you usually see that particular sign of aging.
