TrendMicro Housecall is very good and free, but you have to be online to use it.

We put AVG on all of our customer's computers and have never has a complaint. As to to free online scan Trend Micro has a free scanner for spyware and virus.

you can try etrust it's free for like a year. Yahoo has a free virus scan as well. I don't use it but I think it's in the tool bar. Just do a search for free virus scan. You'll see a few. Might need a regestry cleaner though.

AVG is free, you can download it from the web also AOL is now offering their safety and security center for free at AOL.com It works well.
