bi-polar means both sides of the extreme....lethargic/depressed and then energetic/agitated
clinical depression is just that....it may even be just post-partum which is treatable with meds. Bi-polar is a bit more tricky.

Depression means down in the dumps most of the time, while bi-polar is extreme highs and lows. Similar to manic.

The vast majority of people given either diagnosis do not actually have that condition.
There is a high level corporate marketing arrangement between providers of mental health services and the psych drug companies.
In general the practitioners of mental health do not validate normal human reactions to adverse circumstances, and want to make a more fundamental organic/biochemical/genetic blame for their patient's condition.
It is just like going dishonest mechanics who trick you into paying for things that do not need to be fixed, except it is worse since they are messing with your career/life/freedom.

In a nutshell, when you're depressed you feel dispair, and lack of interest in much of anything.
When you're bi-polar, you tend to alternate between feeling really good and really bad. That's why this is also referred to (and more descriptively to normal people) as manic depression. You're manic (energetic, optimistic, euphoric) sometimes and other times you're depressed.

With depression I go off into a corner and want to be left alone. With bipolar my brother's girlfriend has mood swings, she's crying, angry , screaming. I'ts scary to watch how someone can change so quickly.
