I taught my poodle to roll over and play dead! I would just point my fingers like a gun and say bang, bang and he would roll over and play dead. This is how I did it, I started when he was a puppy. have a simple command like roll over, or bang and physically roll him over and say good dog and give him lots of pets and a treat. Keep doing it over and over. He should get it. What kind of dog is it? Some dogs are smarter than others. now all i have to do with my dog is point my fingers like a gun and he does it, and he is 14 years old! Good luck

First thing you need to do is get him to come. Call him out and the moment he starts coming to you start praising him, give him a reward (pet or food) when he arrives.

Then you need to teach him to sit. Once he came, grab a bit of food and move it towards and past his nose in a way that makes him turn up, keep moving it slowly towards his rear, he will sit down trying to follow the reward. Praise him and practice a lot.

Then you need to teach him "down". That's pretty simple, grab a bite, hold it in your hand and from the "sit" put your hand with the reward down on the floor, he will follow it.

Then you need to teach him to lie down. From the down position put your left hand close to your dog's left shoulder and with your right hand holding a reward make a a swinging movement that makes your dog lie on his side trying to follow it. Your left hand is there to prevent your dog from getting up to follow the reward.

Once you have the "lie" command in place you need to get him really enthusiastic about doing it, he will do it harder and almost roll over doing it. When he's close to rolling over just push him a little harder and he will go. Praise him a lot when this happens.

Lot of work, but very rewarding.

i taught my dog to roll over a couple of years ago. i started off by teaching her to lay down (make sure you use the same word consistently). then when she would lay on command i took a treat in my hand and put it in front of her nose. then i made a big circle around her head and said roll at the same time. when she rolls over even if its not perfect give her the treat and lots of praise. go slow and have patience. it may take several weeks or months. now she can stop, drop and roll in one command!

First you teach them to sit, then you teach them to lay down, then you teach them to roll over. Each of these takes time. You might want to start with obedience classes and get help with teaching your dog to listen. My boss taught her dog to play dead after she taught her to roll over. She will say to her, "Would you rather be a Sooner fan or a dead dog?" and the dog will roll onto her back and play dead! Good luck.

I taught my Lab ot roll over by having her lay down and rolling her over and saying "rollover" and when I was done rolling her over I gave her a treat. I did this about 3 times and she had it down pat. The only problem is she can only roll right. She can't go left :-) Dogs are pretty easy to train and as long as you work with them they catch on pretty quick.

use mini treats and start with simple tricks, like sit, stay and lay down. Once the dog masters these and going from the front of the neck to the back on the outside of the body say the command while urging and showing it what you want it to do. then praise, praise praise!

Don't. Teaching a dog tricks like that is cruel. Just let him be happy and be a dog. Not your own personal circus pet.
