Any advice? I've found a good deal from a reputable breeder and live in a small apartment.

Don't get the really super small kind. They tend to have liver problems and can die really young. The breeder should offer you some kind of guarantee on the puppy and it should have had some shots. It will depend on the age of the puppy what shots it should have had. Chihuahuas can have blood sugar level drops and you need to put Karo syrup in the drinking water until they are about a year old. They shed...for a small dog they can shed a lot of hair. They tend to be one person dogs. So if you have a family they will like one person better than the rest.

Ask yourself why you want a chihuahua before you get one. Have you had any experiance with a chihuahua. Dogs are a lot of work and responsibility no matter what breed it is or size. A great book is chihuahuas for dummies, it really tells you a lot about the breed. Be sure to research the breed and learn a bit about it before buying one or adopting one. Owning a dog is a long commitment and a chi can live 12 - 18 years or so depending on its health.

Short haired chihuahuas are very cute quiet little dogs. They are about $200-$350. But get one from a breeder so that you get all the paper work and know that the dog is healthy.

It is good to get any type of dog from a breeder. Their prices are not to bad. I got my dog between 100-500 dollars. They (the breeder) will also tell you what to feed your dog, and will give you papers about the shot that they gave the dog.

my mom use to breed them. I liked the girls better .The boys pissed more often when they got excited. They are a pretty good breed and would work good in small apartments. they don't have much hair so they get cold easy so they like sweaters :) I do suggest lots of people getting around them because they are timid and if they are only around you they will bite other people and no one should have a dog like that.

chihuahuas are great for small homes and apartments, some people even let them use a litterbox...they just need to play with you a lot and get their food right, cuz some chihuahuas are really picky with what they eat.

OK this "reputable breeder" MUST show you the dam and sire (if possible) otherwise they aren't a reputable breeder.
