You need to make the cd-rom the first boot choice on your bios. Right now your floppy drive-a- is the first boot device. Depending on which computer you have, you need to get into bios on startup. Some are prompted by repeatedly hitting the delete button as it starts up,while others will boot to bios by hitting F1. Once in the bios, you go to the boot order and change it so that the cd-rom boots up before floppy drive-a-, does. Exit bios-saving your changes. Put your Windows 98 cd into your cd-rom and start the computer. You should be able to get to your windows 98 disk, now. You need your windows 95 disk, to verify,so that you can install windows 98.

Replace the drive. it will cost you about $20 new, or if you see a computer in the trash, take it, and rip out the cd rom drive. i have just yester day taken one from my computer that ran win 3.1, and put it in a computer running win 98.
