You have bought into the hype. The earth is very large and humans are so minuscule that we have very little effect on on it.

No, earthquakes originate from deep inside the planet. The only thing human beings can do about earthquakes is be aware of which areas are earthquake-prone and not live there. Of course, the San Andreas fault in California runs directly under some of the most delightful places to live...

It's the fault line that quakes. I don't think digging has any thing to do with it or you would have a lot more earth quakes all over the earth.
