There appears to be a slight controversy over whether one enters heaven immediately after death (a soul departs the body and goes to heaven) or if the body rises up again in the last days (corporeal resurrection). The Bible kind of hints at both of scenarios. Which do you think will happen to you, to your relatives, etc.?

Ah, but THE NOTHING, Jesus said to the thief on the cross, "This day you will be with me in paradise."

According to the Bible, God's Word, when a person dies, their soul leaves the body and goes to either Heaven or Hell. At the Second Coming of Christ, He will resurrect everyone's body and everyone's soul will go back into their body and everyone's body will be transformed into an eternal body. At that time will be the final judgement and the believers will go to be with God in the New Jerusalem on the New Earth, and the non-believers will go to the Lake of Fire in eternal separation from God. www.equip.org

Yes, Christians can sometimes sincerely disagree on minor matters—although you should never forget that all Christians agree on those things that are really important, such as the divinity of Christ, His death on the cross for our salvation, His resurrection from the dead, and our hope of heaven.

From my own study of the Bible, I'm convinced that when we die, we immediately enter the presence of the Lord. At some future time, we will be given new bodies, similar to the body Jesus had after His resurrection. But in the meantime, our souls are with the Lord, and we are fully conscious of being in His presence.

This certainly seemed to be the Apostle Paul's hope. He faced many dangers, and he knew that at any moment his life on earth could end. But he faced death with hope: "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8). Elsewhere he declared, "I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far" (Philippians 1:23). We need to remember, however, one additional truth: At the end of this present age, God will reunite our souls and our bodies. In fact, we will be given new bodies—bodies that will be similar to Christ's body after His resurrection. They will never experience illness or pain, and they will never grow old.

Never forget that we have hope of life after death for one reason: Jesus Christ removed the barrier between us and God—the barrier caused by sin. Is your hope in Him? If not, put your trust in Christ without delay.

You're right in that the Bible does hint at both, but in the passages that seem to talk about instantly going to Heaven, there really is no time frame mentioned.

Personally I don't see that it matters whether you go to Heaven instantly or if your soul "sleeps" for a time before going there...the results are the same.

friend ,, from the bible God said to be absent from the body is to be present with God,,,but in the resurection, our bodies will be changed from corruptable unto un corruptable bodies and meet Jesus in the air,, ,,the bible say our spirt goes back to God that gave it, this might get a little complcated so ill try to keep it as simple as i can, we have 3 thing ,,, the soul, spirit and the body, and and we know for sure the body stays untill the ressurection, but the conversation exsits on the soul and spirt, we now know for sure the spirit goes back to God that gave it, ,,, and the bible says when God breathed into man he became a liveing soul,,, and the soul will never die, ,,,another scripture ,, Jesus talked about a rich man that died and lift his eyes in hell, so its pretty nevident about if a person goes to hell, and Jesus also was talking to the thief on the cross and Jesus told him this day he would be with him in paridise,,, so we are sure about that to, when i die jesus will take me to be where he is, my body will be transformed in the rapture,,,,, a friend in Christ

There is a basis for both in the Bible.
As for me, to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.
All the bodies will be resurrected at the last.
I don't know about my relatives.

One is called soul sleep.
The other is called Ping-yow. You are there. I subscribe to Ping-yow since I am the originator of the word.
If you are wondering what that is, if you have ever fired a gun and hit a rock with the bullet, that is the sound it makes.
Another word for it is ricochet.

I think our soul goes right away to be with the Lord. We will get new bodies when we get to heaven. There isn't anything in the Scriptures that say we have to wait for anything after we die.

I think that our Spirit goes to a Pre-judgement to determine where it will wait out the time before the resurrection and the Final Judgement...

If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior and done your best to keep the commandments... then you will go someplace peaceful...

I'm not sure where you go if you have rejected Jesus...

I think that people who never had the opportunity to hear of Jesus and to accept or reject are sent to a place where they can hear of him and then make a choice (that is why the LDS Church does baptisms for the dead)... but perhaps this comes later? or before the Pre-judgement.

I think that you keep having new lives until you finally get it right. Then you get into heaven. I think each soul has certain things they must learn before they are allowed in heaven. For some unknown reason I think it's seven lives. I also think I'm on my last one. What happens next is going to be decided on if I learned what I was meant to learn. I guess then it will be deterimed wether I go to heaven or hell. I think I've learned a lot in this life but have sinned a lot. IF I've learned from those sins {which I think I have} then I'll get to go on to heaven. If not then I'm going to be very hot for a long while.
