I find it ironic that although Athiests believe themselves free to do whatever they want with their lives and have nothing and no one to answer to, why do they spend so much time hanging around the Religious forum? Go watch some basketball, read a book, enter the Science forum...but why so many spend all their time trying to prove everyone else wrong? Who are you really trying to convince? When you believe in something strongly, you fight for it, you search for knowledge, you'll never change your mind...But if you just really really DONT believe in something, why even bother? It's like trying to argue with the zoo keeper that Giraffes don't exist. Quit waisting your time. Fight for something you do believe in, not something you DONT.

I'm not saying athiests shouldn't be here, shouldn't be heard. My question was just why, what drives you? Taking away people's faith will not help the world. Let the people with faith and purpose continue with that, why try and make the world so dry and pointless? If you don't have faith, that's fine. Although of course you are welcomed to it. But don't say that you come here just to state your oppinion. You're trying to disprove things that people really want to believe in. That's just fundamentally wrong.

Very good question!

Maybe it's hatred. Maybe their crusade is trying to prove Christians wrong. Maybe some are still searching. Maybe deep down on some subconscious level they are fascinated by it.

In an era where most people live by situational ethics and moral relativism, it is rare to see a person who stands firms on certain truths and beliefs. Especially when they run counter to the beliefs and moral of most of the people of society.

I don't consider myself a full fledged Atheist. I do believe in a Creator, I just don't put the Creator or God if you prefer into a human form. The Creator is much more than that.
I don't try to convince anyone of anything. I ask only that people research material other than that written by Christians. There is a lot of proof out there that shows a lot of truth in what Atheists believe. But Christians don't like to stray into the field of research. They prefer to believe rather than think. And that's okay for some but for some of us we like to see proof of things. And I don't think that is a bad thing. If I don't consider the Christians doing wrong by believing what they do then why should you consider me wrong for believing what I do. I know your question is not directed at me alone but I think most Atheists don't have the "shove it down your throat attitude". Atheistism is a form of religion, it's what they believe to be true, just as the Christians believe what they do. As for me, I do believe strongly that the proof is there to question who wrote and decided the Bible should be the only truth. So I research it for my knowledge. As for the other people who are Atheists I don't answer for them. Why is it so hard to have a calm quiet discussion about each others religion? Emotions, that's why. You want to be right and want me to believe you and I want to be right and want you to believe me. We will never come to a compromise because of that. And by the way, I was a Christian for many, many years. Like I said before, I just have a problem with the authenticity of the Bible and the concept of whether Jesus was really a God/Man. In my opinion if God wants us to know who or what it is then It would have no problem making that point known. And writing those letters, (the Gospels) that long after Jesus was gone leads me to believe that the "story" got told many different ways and yet I am supposed to just take it on Faith. I have a problem with that, I like proof.
So I hope I answered your question from my perspective. And I will continue to "fight" for my beliefs just as I expect you will.
Peace

wow hey excellent job judging atheists i love it I'm sure god and his son do as well.. and why should it matter? do we criticize how much time you spend reading your man made book anymore than you do use reading about other religion? And i would be careful on who you are accusing and what for!

Like sending out "missionaries" to convert Indians and other cultures around the WORLD to your religion from one they have had total faith and trust in their entire existence. turning them into slaves unless they conformed. I would hold my tongue if i were you. believe in what you will and we will in what we do.

1). Religion and spirituality is not written in stone. People have differing ideas and sharing those ideas is what makes a forum like this so interesting. If it was just people with one idea on this forum, it would simply be a huge yay Jesus circle-jerk.

2). I agree with you that answers like "Because there is no God" are pointless and immature because they don't spark intelligent discourse, but it is wrong to lump all people you don't agree with into that same category.

3). These questions pop up on the "all answers"

4). people of all faiths (or non-faiths) are very insecure in their beliefs and feel they must defend them constantly.

We could say the same thing about you. Why are you discussing the subject when YOU have no intention of changing your mind either? I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. But when an interesting question comes up (in "All Categories"---I don't go to the religion section specifically) I answer it. If you don't want to know what other people think, why ask?

Because atheists simply get 'off' on the shock and wow factor. They love the attention they get from starting needless arguments and watching people get worked up and offended.

Atheists love attention. They love having other people look at them and think "wow...this guy is such a rebel...he's so different because he doesn't believe in God! Maybe he's really smart or knows something I don't!"

When in fact, that couldn't be further from the truth. Atheists are ignorant, self-loathing imbeciles and have lower I.Q.s on average than religious people. It's been tested and proven.

What I find amusing is the hypocracy in the whole thing - see, if one of these self-proclaimed atheists were to find out their Mom had cancer, believe me, they'd be praying their asses off to a god they claim to not believe in, begging him to save their Mother's life. Of course, they'll never admit to it, but we know it's true.

Either way it doesn't bother me. I know where I'm going when I die. Can't say the same for them.

This is what happens when they find enlightenment in having nothing to believe in, there is no point to their lives, so they hang out at religious areas expecting us to prove faith to them. The point of faith is having no proof, so you guys won't get any proof from us, except that which you wish to deny. Go visit the science section, or politics or something, go somewhere that you actually believe what's being discussed. Quit wasting our time along with yours.

How can you say you're fighting for what you believe in? The big bang from nothingness??? Get real. I'm sorry you guys are so empty and without purpose, but don't try to sucker us in, you live in your emptiness, I don't want any part of it. I don't try to convert you people, quit trying to convert me into your nothingness.

I think they are drawn to the religion section because they practice the religion of atheism. Look at some of them. They are far more zealous than most Christians. Also, note how they specifically attack Christianity the most. On the surface they view us as enemies but I think deep down they want to be convinced. They know the truth, they just can't get their brain to accept what their heart knows and they are secretly hoping someone will offer the one missing piece of the puzzle.

Most of the time Atheists spend time in religious forums its to hone their own philosohpical ideas of the world and test them for validity.

Besides, just because one does not believe a deity exists, doesn't mean one cannot find the concept of deities interesting...

"Fight for something you do believe in, not something you DONT."

Some atheists actually think the world will be a better place without religion. That all of the wrongs in the world are caused by religion...

They actually think they are making the world a better place by fighting religion.

They are on a "crusade" if you will, to belittle, disprove, fight, and laugh at Christians. And they think they're doing a good thing!
