i have dark brown hair that looks almost black

That's the same thing for me!!! People always say it's black but I know it's brown. Try to dye it a lighter shade of brown. That would be really pretty. Because of your avatar I suppose your skin tone is brown so if you dye your hair a lighter brown that will still look good even if your much lighter or darker it will be pretty.

I had 2 shades of blonde highlights but the sun and the chemicals of the dye damaged my hair so I had to dye it back to black and I am about to do it the same. I am planning to do red highlights on black/brown hair. Good luck to you!

Depends on your complexion.
I was born blonde, but everyone says that I look better as a red-head. After puberty, my natural hair color turned brunette with red highlights, but because of my Irish-ghostly complexion, red or auburn are as dark as I can go. My friends and family have thought that I was deathly ill, or something when my natural hair color starts to show.

i think of a darker shade would be relatively particularly! possibly a point 4, with a style of coppery tone to it may well be intense-high quality. in case you flow to Sallys, they'd clarify what a point 4 is, yet its in certainty a medium brown. because you have already got shade on your hair, it is going to take a splash darker than that.

You can do some highlights or dye your hair so it would lighten just little, until you find a color that would be comfortable for you.

if it's close to black anyway, go with blue/black. Hair that looks different depending on the lighting is awesome
