I heard there are some states where there's no sales tax so you can buy a car tax free... does anyone know what those states are? can i get away with paying no tax by buying something from one of those states online and having it shipped to me?

As soon as you go to register it they will want to see proof state sales tax is paid - you don't have it you will pay it. It doesn't matter where you buy it but you have to pay your state's sales tax, not the state you bought it in.

That's not going to help you any as your home state will charge the sales tax when you register it. You'll get a credit for any tax paid to another state, if any, but you're still going to have to pay the tax (in full, by the way) when you tag and title the vehicle at home.

I dont know about salex tax, but you need to be a Car Dealer and buy the car WHOLESALE if you do not wish to pay tax. Because of this, car dealerships do not like to do buisness with dealers because it costs them more money. So if you arent planning on becoming a car dealer, get ready to pay some taxes. =)

The only state I know of that allows this is Oregon. And, no, you can't buy it there and avoid the sales tax; you have to be an Oregon resident (they've already thought of that loophole).

Hi, the answer is no, because your state will charge a tax with registration, and possibly a penalty.
call your dmv to make sure.

It'll cost more to do that than pay the taxes. Gees.
