I'll bet there's a lot of guys out there that are responsible and hard working and just happen to love videogames.

I am 65 and retired from the US Army. I have a full time job with the Government and I have a lot of responsibilities including a wife and a home. I play video games because I like to keep my reflexes quick and it makes me feel good. I'm not sure how relaxing it is, I am amped when I finish some of them. Playing these games in your SPARE time has nothing to do with being irresponsible.

it can be a hobby as long as it doesn't take up all of your free time. If you are married and own a business then that should take up most of the time, but maybe an hour each day or so as just a way to unwind, no, not immature. But if it dominates your free time, then, yes, I feel it would be immature, because kids let video games dominate their free time. Just make sure the biz and the wife (and kids?) come first.

In the last ten years or so, we've seen the video game market shift from an expensive and simplistic toy for children into a machine meant for indepth play of games dealing with mature subjects, complex settings, and adult themes. Games have changed a lot from mario and sonic and branched into complex tests of strategy, puzzle solving, and fast fingers. No longer are we supposed to simply collect the power up and win the game, games now require players to complete multi faceted missions and balance sublte relationships between characters.

What I'm trying to say is that the focus of video games has changed from fifteen year olds to twenty five year olds. Games are being made for adults now, adults that demand more than just jumping and shooting. I don't see how playing today's video games is any different than enjoying pg-13 movies or science fiction novels.

Hell no - it is just fine - good hobby

Don't let others tell you what it is or isn't either - if you enjoy, why quit? People collect dolls, plates, and even spoons for crying out loud. At least you can spend time actually interacting with something or someone.

So, I say not immature and it is a hobby but it could be more - I mean look at Microsoft, they decided it wasn't immature and are making a heck of a profit off of it. So....

it depends-If you come home, rush by the family go to the video game and not come up for air til wee hours of the morning-you maybe a video game addict and may need some counseling. If you set aside a cartain amount of time an evening like from 7-8 and it helps you unwind it may be a hobby. Have other family members evaluate your time on the computer and see how your video game activity appears to them.

You are immature in the sense that you have not grown up. By asking this question, it sounds like you play video games more to talk about them and be social rather than just because you like the games. Try getting a real hobby.

Yes, but the real question is your definition of "hobby" - if the amount of time spent playing videogames detracts from other, healthier and more social pursuits (I used to be a video game recluse), than it really isn't healthy.

A hobby? Fine. An obsession or replacement for real friends? Not fine.

I live with my girlfriend who has two kids. I work a full time job, come home, make dinner, take care of the kids for a couple hours, clean up, take care of the pets PLAY VIDEO GAMES and fall sleep.

There is nothing wrong with a hobbie as long as its not a priority

Hey come on...how could playing video games make you immature? It is only something you like to do...which means that it is a hobby...it is not like you are leaving your wife, your job, and your entire life and concentrating on video games only right?

Don't put too much thinking into a simple hobby that you should enjoy....

Keep on playing and ENJOY!!

You tell us if it's irresponsible or just a hobby. If you are meeting all of your goals and still play video games that's okay. But you have to remember that you have a wife with needs and maybe a family to take care of, just make sure that you aren't ignoring your responsibilities to play video games. Otherwise, ENJOY!!!!!
